The Warriors, usually one of the benchmark sides in the NYC competition were thoroughly humiliated by the record breaking Panthers team 74-10 (at Pepper Stadium) yesterday afternoon. That's 74-10. When scoring approaches a point a minute it’s pretty obvious everyone played well but MoM Nathan Cleary was the standout performer in a team of outstanding performances. The 11 straight goals he kicked and the try he scored were just the icing on the cake for this exciting young player. He contributed a lot more than that.

Fullback, Dylan Edwards had another outstanding game, running at will, scoring himself and setting up a host of tries. I lost count how many times he had the final touch on the ball. He’s a very good footballer who’s going to get a whole lot better.

Centre, Braiden Burns raced over for 5 tries off the back of a great all round performance and even though his name’s not Jennings, he could well be the best young centre in the club.

Best of the forwards was crash tackling lock Liam Martin who didn’t shy away from putting his body on the line when defending against the big Kiwi pack and he certainly didn’t shy away from running the ball at the opposition, with plenty of aggression, at every opportunity.
Tough, uncompromising prop Cowen Epere, as usual, gave a lot more than he got and again stamped himself as a future First Grader.

An good indication of just how committed this team is to winning came 30 seconds from half-time, when the referee ordered a scrum. Despite leading by 42-10 the forwards ran to the mark and bound, to stop the clock, so they could have one more play before the break. Burns in off Edwards, Cleary bangs the conversion over from the sideline, 48-10, who’s got the oranges?

The scary thing about this team is they’ve still got a lot of improvement in them. We won’t know just how good they are though, till they meet a team capable of putting pressure on them. The Raiders managed it and beat them at the beginning of the season but got absolutely bitch slapped by the young Panthers in the return leg. They appear to have the competition firmly in their grasp but 4 months is a long time to hold your form and complacency can be as crippling as a stress fracture.

Another very solid performance, other than the weird first round loss, and taking a while to get started against the Sharks 3 or so weeks back this team is playing unbelievable football. A U20 team that can defend....enough said. Not sure how much improvement they have in them to be honest. As far as I'm concerned they are playing a great brand of football, and as shazza mentioned they have a hunger which is pretty impressive given their 46 point scoring average per game this year.
Life is a lesson that some never learn.
