Who is your tip for the Melbourne Cup?

I'm on Brown Panther to win

Also have Brown Panther, Voleuse De Coeur & Ibicenco in a trifecta, and the same with Verema in a first 4 bet.

I put $20 e/w a few weeks ago on Brown Panther to stand to win over $700.

About 250-300 yards from the post something happened to him and he ended up dancing on the spot.

I guess he wasn't used to the loud crowd roar or he simply should have had a lead-up race in Oz.

Hope he comes back though...a few people warmed to him.

I'll be getting the steward's report within a few days and I'll link it in here.

But overall on the day,I won $300 so it wasn't a bad day...too bad about the incessant scratchings from all the other meetings all day.

And did anyone else have a hard time in listening to the actual calls on Channel 7?

They really should get rid of that echoing effect as it is a huge distraction.

Listened to the cup via radio, but the call on the radio finished about 10 seconds before Channel 7's did.

Anyway,theres this Thursday & Sat.

Yer, I was also on Brown Panther because of his name and also the connections to Liverpool FC great Michael Owen. Did my dash (as did he), as I had him in all my boxed Trifectra's. DOH.

Nothing new for me to take a bath on Melbourne Cup day :(
Life is a lesson that some never learn.

........ a dodgy trainer with a dodgy bookie son, with a dodgy jockey on a non dodgy imported horse. Poor ole Tom will have to hit his mother up for an increase to his allowance after having to pay out on a favourite. I didn't bet on the race. There are plenty of other races to waste my money on.

I thought I was the only one who thought this way. Let's not forget the dodgy Husband who fixed a race who is now a bookmaker also.

When you think of things that don't make sense in life, the Waterhouse family and racing certainly raise my eyebrow. Do everything wrong and be glorified for your efforts.

How would Nash be feeling, he does everything asked of him, then a jockey who is returning from a serious offence is given his ride on the Melb Cup Fav and wins it........I would be livid, but given the Waterhouse history, you wouldn't say too much would you.......they might paint a part of you so people don't recognise who you are, or worst still you could end up a "late scratching"

........ Finding an Australian bred horse in the final field will be harder than finding the winner. At least Bart brought Kiwi's over. Anyone know the last Aussie bred steed to win the damn Cup?

The imports are older, stronger, one pace type's bred to go the distance of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. And there's my tip.
If you must bet on this race keep your head above water. ;)

Must bet on the race.....you betcha - Purely out of principle not common sense Puss.

I like to try my luck on Trifecta's and first 4's in this race, they pay heaps, but like lotto, it's a pipe dream ! :(

........ A statistician ??????

Statistically what chance of winning?

Mate, I'll find you a winner. But it won't be the Melbourne Cup.

Nb last tip I gave, Nads had a bite. A duel Group 1 winner in New Zealand, first start in Australia/doomden, it broke down and was duly retired as a brood mare.

Maybe you're right, a lotto ticket sounds just fine.

The last "win" I had on the Melbourne cup was Magnolia Hall in '91' I think, it was a really good time of the year :woohoo:

I had 50 each way, it ran 3rd and paid $15 ;)

Since then, I have re-invested those winnings AND THEN SOME

Your probably right to avoid the punt on this race, it's just, I can't, it's like it's my duty as an Aussie to drop a few bob on one of these nags.

Maybe it's because my first ever bet was At Talaq in the 86 cup, being only 14 at the time, I was doomed from then on :pinch:

..... lot to admire about rakti's barnstorming Caulfield Cup victory, but a 2kg penalty would have him starting over 2 miles (3200-Melb Cup) with more weight than mutleys bus. :P

With or without Mutley in it

15 wide and gave half the field a cold, I think your right though, a mammoth task to get the double.

mutley's a solid gentleman but even Phar Lap would struggle with mutley in the saddle. ;)

Mutley wouldn't be able to get up to the saddle, due to problems in his legs ;)

..... a sad ending to a Caulfield Cup champ we all admired a fortnight ago.

If Kev, me and mutley had a Caulfield Cup winner well I tell ya, he'd be eatin daisies, not pushing them up.

I hope it is only horse poo that stunk around that stall

Prior to the race, I couldn't believe what they were doing to that horse, glad I wasn't on it.

Couldn't help myself, had a little bit each-way of Who Shot Thebarman ;) although the Mrs is still rubbing it in, she had a 10'a on the winner.

All in All, shit day on the punt........but I'll get it back Saturday :woohoo:

fields and fields of daisies too.......with me skipping around next to him, arms waving, head in the air :P

Will Do

Gotta think Hartnell is a big show on recent form, be interesting to see the final field, some good horses in the early acceptances.

..... had a look at Articus from a cup perspective, but I ain't seen much to recommend. You reckon Hartnell's a 'handicapper'?

Will need to take a closer look at the imports that's for sure coz outside Jameka I don't think there's much racing here that can make any worthwhile challenge.
