.....radio host Alan Jones has sparked outrage by telling Young Liberals that Gillards father "died of shame".

This bloke 'Jones' has been exposed for the grub he is. Don't care which side of the fence you sit, there was no call for comment of this ilk and it's a good reason to fold this tent up, before the sequel. :pinch:

Normally don't mind Jones, but that's going way too far, read the article and Jones is not defending his actions but how could a bloke considered smart by many say such a stupid thing.
Life is a lesson that some never learn.

Have never been able to stand his obvious political bias and the fact he shamelessly feels the need to impose his political beliefs on his listeners (and anyone else within earshot) so while I'm not particularly surprised by this comment, I am incredibly shocked that anyone could stoop so low...

It was a despicably low act regardless of ones political persuasion.

What made it worse, was his press conference wasn't so much to apologize to fuss up to being caught saying it.

I wonder how this will wash up with his listeners and sponsors.

This is exactly why I don't listen to talkback radio. They carry on with their agenda/bias & if you call in to disagree you are told your opinion is wrong. Shoving a microphone in front of someone does not make their opinion more worthy or true than others.

While I didn't hear about this incident until it was posted on here (I pay very little attention to the media these days), I am not surprised by it either. It just seems par for the course with Jones. I hope he suffers for it through reduced endorsements/advertising, or possibly even gets shown the door.

He won't get shown the door, he's part owner of the station.

Regardless of your political persuasion his comments were a dog act. He really is coming across as a spiteful and vitriolic little man these days, much more than he has ever before.

I used to enjoy listening to him 10-15 years ago, the same with Hadley, but both really have become noise pollution. I suppose big egos and high ratings can do that to you.

Yes it is a low act but Jones and the other shock jocks put themselves above everyone else which is why I don't listen to them. Even if it was a private function or however he described it, it is still inappropriate. His apology was less than sincere as he used it as another opportunity to slag off about the government. Regardless of your political persuasion, some balanced criticism would make him more credible. But certainly not making light of someone's recently deceased relative.

No question, his remark about the PM's father was disgraceful.

But the media frenzy that has broken out since has all the hallmarks of a pack of hyenas chattering around a badly wounded elephant.

Apart from the fact that he was insensitive enough to make such a remark, the thing that amazed me most is that a person with his experience could believe that nobody would or should report on it because it was at a 'private function' (and how could anyone believe that the so-called 'Chatham House Rule' be honoured - or even known - by half of the audience or any journalists who might have been there? ). In these days of smartphones a celebrity in any field should assume that everything - including the toilet bowl - could be bugged.

For those suggesting he should be sacked from the radio station, bear in mind two points: 1. he is a major shareholder; and 2. His remarks were not made on the station. Yes, sponsors are pulling their accounts now - but watch what happens when the next ratings figures come out and the Alan Jones show, partly as a result of this furore, goes up some percentage points in the ratings. Cynical? Yes, but that's the way of the world...

It has been going for 4 days now.

It has become massive overkill.

Seriously. The only person that has the right to still be outraged is the PM herself.

I'm over hearing about it tbh.

1. can't stand Alan Jones
2. can't stand Julia Gillard
3. know nothing about the late Mr Gillard

Massive over reaction to a nothing event. I prefer to retain my concerns for some of the important matters of the world.

Surprisingly poor judgement on the part of Alan Jones. No excuses for Alan in this instance but at the same time you have to bear in mind the media frenzy on this issue is driven by the Labor apologists in the our media.

Is factual accuracy a requirement of journalism? I thought the motto was "don't let the truth get in the way of a good story".
