This weeks team selection will be interesting for sure;

Fullback: probably Iongi
Wing: probably McLean
5/8: probably Laurie
1/2: Cole, Toelau, Luke (if any of them are available) if not possible Kenny?
Lock: Henry (Eiso is out with concussion).
2nd row: Sorro and Garner
Front row as per usual (except if Kenny is half in which case Sommerton comes into hooker.

Aside from Smith and Mav not sure who else is left on the bench.Riki maybe?

And yes I don’t see a place for Peach in first grade.

I shudder at the thought of Peach and Laurie in the halves together

Don’t mind the sound of Laurie and Toleau if Cole is out, but Trent for #7 in my eyes.

No space for peach though, rather see sommerton, but coach will have different opinions, no doubt 14.

I think Sunia will find the #1 Jersey. Iongi and McLean on the wing.

Thank God it’s only the dragons. Won’t be easy either way

I’m surprised Schneider is back so quickly, but pleased at the same time.

Having him back in the side will add some structure and allow Cole to roam around like a five-eighth.

Although Luai was amazing the halfback role, there were times it felt we had two #6 out there and it seemed a bit chaotic.

Having a half back return to the squad should sort that out.

The past four years have been our golden years. Some people I’ve spoken to hint at constant winning being boring. But I’ve suffered through too many horror seasons, going back to 1967, when any win was something rare, to subscribe to being bored. There was no joy sitting on the hill in the rain, in a ‘crowd’ of 3,000, watching our team being ground into the mud by one of the cashed-up ‘glamour’ teams. Now, among most commentators, Penrith’s ‘next-man-up’ modus operandi has become accepted wisdom. 2022, when we won everything possible, including smashing Parra in the NRL GF, was surely the peak. Our strength through the grades has been the envy of every other club.

During these years we’ve endured a constant player drain, but are still hanging on, but is it all now about to become just a memory? How can things change so quickly? This year the Harold Matts and SG Ball didn’t even make the finals, the reserve grade is heading down the table in free fall (including being absolutely thrashed by Newtown last week) and the Flegg are hanging in the top 8 by the skin of their teeth.

Is the pilfering of our talent taking place in all grades? Is the talent in the lower grades moving elsewhere because they can’t see any chance of cracking the top grade at Penrith? During this year’s SOO period, are we about to see how bare the cupboard is? Have our teams become complacent? Any ideas?

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has updated his squad for Saturday’s match against the Dragons at BlueBet Stadium.

The Panthers will wear the 2024 Home Jersey.

I get cold chills even seeing Peachy in an extended squad.

and i urge caution about thinking we have this won and done and hope the players don’t think like this going into the game.

any team in the NRL can beat any other, just look at last nights effort by Parra over Sharks.

if you are off 10% the other mob will get you.

agreed the team we have named should perform well but that is what they need to do.

conditions will have an impact on the game but the crowd should be a huge plus for Panthers

We need to secure the win to help when we play a few more tough games with our SOO players missing.

should be a fascinating game

This may not be a normal game, and rain is forecast. That said I will still be there on the hill to watch the next generation play their heart out.

Win or not this game will be interesting

Hope Riki & Toelau kill it tonight. Just seeing how much their debuts meant to them was very moving. Good luck to both of them.

And, ditto for McLean. He had an unhappy NRL debut game last year. Hope he goes well tonight, too.

Mclean is looking ok as is Riki for his short stint but unless Schneider has an injury he has gone missing and he is out of his depth in first grade.

and why aren’t we rolling the ball into the ingoal instead of these danky bombs?

Dragons are terrible and the 10 flatters them.

Hope Laurie cuts loose.

and hope Leota is Ok and is not an issue with his hamstring.

I had my concerns at half time, and it turns out they were justified. We didn’t have the points in the bank when everything went our way in the first half, and have been out enthused in the second half.

well its easy to see why our reserve side are getting beat

we were trash in the second half and lost the second half 22 nil

its hard to put into words just terrible and our worst effort in years.

and this rubble face the Sea Eagles next week

MOM was our crowd who had to endure this in terrible conditions.
