R17 Panthers v Bulldogs - Game Day Thread

Yeah, I had one of those near me. Tried to fight everyone on the way out too :man_facepalming:

I first saw it with Greg Eastwood from the Dogs, he would grab the hips, swing himself around the back and launch onto the back of the legs. He is responsible for Bryce Cartwright smashing his ankle. It has progressed from there, but that was the first i saw it really cause injury.

Re the game, outstanding defensively, we looked busted in the 1st half, but justified, those guess agains on the 4th n 5th tackles nearly broke us…such a blight on the game.
Note: The Mrs raised a good point last night…what was that for, I said I don’t know with the shits lol - she said, they usually tell you on the screen, like “ruck infringement” or “inside the 10” but with the 2 on the 4th n 5th tackle no comment…I said that is the problem, sometimes even the ref doesn’t call why just waves the arm.

2 Call outs, Lindsay Smith…Faaaarrrrk sake, just run the ball straight and hard AND Papalii, lock it up ya fool, 1st tackle coming out of our end and he is trying the hero offload in traffic. I could have smashed the TV :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Not had a chance to watch replay, but what a great effort by the boys in a good quality game.
It was a great atmosphere at the game - well done to the fans who were there.
Again a great team effort, & not a poor performer for us.
Again, we found a way to win!!!

Once again so proud to be a Panther today.

We are tracking in the right direction. You could tell from the kickoff that the Bulldogs saw this as a “statement game”, adn to be fair they didn’t disappoint. This game had a lot more energy in it than most of the games this season, as both coaches put in in their post game conference it felt like a finals match.

This game was very much defined by great defensive efforts, the scoreline indicates that too. I feel the Panthers resolve is getting better, there was a few times that the Bulldogs forced some ascendency in the first half, but the Panthers absorbed the blow and got back to work.

Where the Bulldogs were looking for some blunt hard dominance, the Panthers were willing to go the distance and slowly constrict the Bulldogs, chocking them of possession, field position, and momentum. Towards the end the Bulldogs were desperate, they couldn’t dominate due to being gassed, and they were relying on offloads and one percent plays, which were not paying off for them.

In the end the Bulldogs blew their opportunities, even to the last play they were rushing and allowed the Panthers defence to easily work out where they were going.

The charge down from Cleary was special but it highlighted something about Burton that he has not addressed. His on field kicking is so slow, it take almost an eternity to setup, so much that not only the defence read it easily but his chasers end up overrunning the mark and put themselves offside.

Well we go into our last bye next week, then 8 weeks straight to the finals. Our run home does not look that bad, if we are on the improve consistently as we have been these past weeks, then I can see us winning a majority of them.

The hunt for our fifth is well and truely alive.

Interesting attribution of hip drop tackles (HDT) to Eastwood at the Scumdogs. So, let’s call a spade a spade. These are my recollections.

They were caught using hardened shoulder pads (1980s).

So, Eastwood has been tagged with the HDT curse.

Didn’t Terry Lamb take out Ellery Hanley in the 1988 GF (Redirecting...)?

Then there was the Oasis development scandal in Liverpool.

After that there were the two rape allegations against Scumdog players. The women were brave, but were ruined when the club backed the players.

Later there was the salary cap scandal. I recall one player, a current media personality, expressing surprise at having more income than he thought; presumably he wouldn’t be aware if he was ever receiving less that he thought he earned.

And wasn’t James Graham up on a biting charge.

I was at a game at the SFS in the days of Joel Clinton and a young SBW. We were unfortunately behind a block of scumdog supporters. When they scored, one of their tribe turned around and, for no reason, gave us a tirade of subhuman abuse. My niece was clearly unsettled by it. I remain of the opinion that their supporter base are the most undesirable rabble in the NRL.

Finally, whenever the scumdogs came to Penrith, the police placed extra men on the trains back east, especially when Penrith won. Anyone wearing Penrith gear on those trains was unsafe.

So, the scumdogs supporters are made from the same stuff as their team, and it’s what the flush button is for.

And during all this time we had the term ‘family club’ forced down our throats. Not the kind of family that I’d want as neighbours.

As for last night’s game, there was hardly a bad player. But I suspect that Papali’i’s lack of respect for possession will see him in reserves as soon as Sorro has served his suspension.

Great weekend for the Panthers in Rnd 17 for sure, beating dogs in all 3 grades.
NRL 8-6, NSW Cup 36-6, Jersey Flegg 42-26.

Watching the Cup game with a number of players who have played NRL this year playing for us - Laurie, Alamoti, Cole, Schneider, Sommerton, Eisenhuth, the Panthers were much better than their opposition. Great performances across the park, & not to take anything away from our players, but the game shows the huge difference between Cup and NRL.

The Flegg game was a bit of an attacking being better than defending, but a lot of good players for the Panthers.

With most of our NRL team playing this week, and the lineups adjusting for this, shows we have a lot of talent in our club.

For the dogs, perhaps they need to keep buying players from us & even the tiges
