Still a premiership looking side if you ask me. We just need Moses to step up (and the rest of the pack) and lay the early foundation for these young halves. I read the Souths pack think they can dominate. We need to make a statement against these wannabes 1-4 will not be good for anyone.
Rapt that Toelau has been given a chance to run the side in Clearyâs absence. He impressed me a lot last year & I think heâs by far our best option. If he can reproduce the form he showed against Manly in the trials, weâll go well. But, as Kevin points out, our forwards will need to step up & give Toelau & Cole the space & time to control the game.
Laurie appears to have his concrete boots on
Very ordinary first half. A lot of the same mistakes we made against the Roosters.
I always worry with Laurie at the back. He seems to struggle under the high ball. Maybe swap him with Jenkins?
Shades of the first few rounds of 2019in that performance.
Thinking we should of picked Huth at half, at least we wouldnât be leaking so many points
Another game where the team turned up thinking the game was already won.
Way too many mistakes tonight, from the get go.
Better performance in the second half, but by then the damage was done. Really missed Clearyâs level head while we were trying to claw away at the deficit.
We got back into the game, but the damage was done.
I think this shows once again how much we miss Edwards control of our defence.
Trent was somewhat of a disappointment, especially in defence.
To be honest if fullback is supposedly Laurieâs best position, then I question if he has a role in the 17. Canât defend, poor handling .
Moses was robbed of that try.
Well we get Cleary back next week, so thatâs something. I fear for our defence though untill Edwards return
We had lost that one in the first half⌠whatever comeback we were to mount would end like the past two weeks⌠getting run out by the clock.
Toleau didnât have the performance he wished. Really struggled in attack and his defence wasnât up to the task⌠Souths ran a lot of traffic down his side, and we got caught out. Thought with Schniederâs inclusion in the second half our defence really had some punch.
I was a bit confused by the Leota âNo Tryâ. To me it looked like the ball popped out sideways as a result of he grounding, not a knock on⌠it looked like the commentators agreed. It was a real head scratcher⌠it would have brought the score to 28-24, but as I said earlier we got beat by the clock in the end.
The positives were that after the onslaught and error laden half, we managed to keep the Bunnies out for the remainder of the game. Cleary will be back next week, heopefully with some much needed direction. Not off to the best of starts this season, thats for sure.
That was horrific - Other than the fundamental errors, what was more concerning for me was the lack of discipline, we pride ourselves on clean, hard effective defense. What I saw was head pushing, leaning on their heads, laying in the tackles etc etc. Liam Henry needs to watch the replays of himself and the cost of his dumbness.
Donât get me wrong, this was a team issue, not any individual, but the penalties Henry gave are NOT the Penrith of recent times. Marto also started the grub stuff, Garner had a turnâŚwhat was happening?
Not a good start to the game or to the season but being the eternal optimist one good thing is the TAB have pushed us out to $8 to win a 5th premiershipâŚ.not a bad price all things considered
I had Moses anytime try scorer, you reckon I am filthy - only $10 @ $7.50 but itâs not the pointâŚTHAT WAS A TRY !!
Laurie has always been rocks-and-diamonds. There were only rocks on display in this game, probably mudstone. He also needs to grab a dictionary and research the meaning of âurgencyâ.
Henry exemplified how damaging stupidity can be.
Mosesâ try had no separation at impact with the ground; that is supposed to be the key criteria these days. But we should have known that with Klein we wonât win the key decisions.
Smith was top knotch; Martin needs to differentiate between intense aggression and losing control. Let the other teams think he is a grub without actually being one.
Toelau was found wanting in the pressure of a first grade game.
Iâve never seen such awful stats as in that first half, even in our bad years. That is a reflection of playing like a rabble.
Alamotiâs goal kicking was top class; pity he didnât do the same last week.
1 win from 4 games â time to start getting worried. 5 years of having a defensive black wall, now it leaks like a sieve. JFH, Cleary and Edwards are badly missed.
Was it my imagination, or was Tago a bit quiet in this game? He didnât seem to make the impact he normally does.
I donât think it was your imagination. I think he has been quiet all year, a lot of last year too.
On Laurie, I think my biggest annoyance with him was the try they scored of a kick into the in goal near the posts. Laurie was no where to be seen, and wasnât involved in the previous tackle. Finally a reverse camera angle of the try showed him standing hands on hips next to the far goal post, simply watching it unfold in front of him.
I would have hooked him then and there.
Also⌠Iâm not sure what Ivan has been saying to the boys at half time the past few weeks, but may I suggest trying that speech during the pregame instead.
28 points down at half time. Not a point conceded in the second half⌠a stark contrast.
