Lots of talk in the media that Crighton is set to sign with dogs for season ‘24.
No great surprise if true on a number of fronts, he has reportedly always been chasing the dollar and fullback, and we also have a salary cap to manage.
There are a few good choices coming through to replace him, not to mention who we may pick up cheap.
Apparently he agreed to terms with the club back in May last year, they were just waiting for clarification of the salary cap for this year apparently.
Good to see a handshake still means something.
Now Crighton is off the books from next year, there is room for the club to extend him into a long term deal.
As long as we lock up JFH (which we have), Leota (which we should), Yeo (which we must) Martin (who we will), Cleary (who we have) and Edwards (who we should) into long term contracts, the rest of the team who form around them will lead us to success.
And the above is no disrespect to the others in the team, I’m sure all panther fans support the efforts you have put in over the last 3 years to bring home our 2 premierships.
Playing the “loyalty” card is a low blow. I don’t blame Leniu at all. He’s played in the last 2 Grand Final winning teams, played for Samoa in the World Cup, and is stuck behind Fish & Leota, so he currently plays about 20 mins a game. He’s 22 & nowhere near his peak, why wouldn’t he take a higher offer from a likely premiership contender like the Roosters?
Having said that, I’m gutted we’re losing him. I’ve said how good I think he is on this forum for a couple of years.
Good luck to Leniu. I hope he gives us his best this year, I’m sure he will. And hope our production line of young talent continues to flourish.
