Ordinary first half. A lot of our team look out of sorts. The Cleary injury isn’t helping. Somehow we are still even at half time, even with all the stats going against us.
I’ll take that win, considering everything seemed to go against us.
Not a bad crowd for a weird time slot.
At the game I didn’t even know it was Cogger who came on, thought it was Luke. Gee he did a great job at halfback.
So good to see Leota get a try. He certainly wasn’t going to let that one get away from him after having a couple disallowed early this year. Great off load by Yeo too
Only time slot I couldn’t make this weekend, due to me having to be up early for the new job tomorrow (don’t want to be late or overtired on my first day).
I’m not unhappy for him to miss the SOO drama’s. Problem is, Hammy’s can become problematic if not corrected the first time, I would give him as much time as needed to get it right, although NC on 1 leg is better than 3/4 of the competition.
Ryley Smith impressed me in JF. Plenty of times on our forum I read criticism of Nathan Cleary using various bombs near the opposing goal line rather than grubbers. But Smith had no such qualms, and did it well. Also, too often the long kick goes straight to a receiver who then has a head start running the ball back. I don’t recall ever seeing a long kicker finding the grass so often as Smith did. He really had it on a string. I wonder how long it will be before another club grabs him (think Isaiya Katoa from last year).
I was concerned when Cleary came off and Cogger came on. At first it looked like Laui and Cogger were suffering from miscommunication. You could tell as they were having a chat during a few of the scrums. Luckily the game plan came together and I thought Cogger had a really good game for his first hit out for the club.
I will say this, Cogger has a real fine kicking game. Some of those kick looked like he had the ball on a string, it really put some pressure on the Dragons. That kick to To’o right at half time was one of the best kicks I have seen this season, I couldn’t help but stand and applaud.
real shame about Cleary and news he is out for 6 weeks is despite his injury good for Panthers IMO.
That being said we were just awful last night albeit against a side who were really up for the game and the Cleary injury magnified how badly the side depend on him.
Lucky to get the win but Turuva was found out last night in defence twice and plenty of other teams will pay attention to that, bright spot was Cogger who seamlessly just slotted into the squad which is a testament to the kid.
Was Lenui injured as he was not as his high workmate? and not sure about these bye weeks, we just seem to come back very rusty
Happy with Cogger at 7 and our team should be better for the run but we need to work on plenty, its a V12 running on 6 cylinders at the moment which i guess is a little scary when we get it all right.
