[2025] EF Warriors v Panthers - Game Day Thread

Schneider to start, Sommerton on bench, otherwise 1-17 with Milky 18th man.

It’s there for us to win it!

I hope to god that Schneider’s service from dummy half is better than last week

We’re in a good arm wrestle. I feel we are getting on top though.

Comfortable win in the end. Look like we still have another gear or two in us.

I hate watching our finals games on TV. Apart from ‘21 in QLD, we’ve been to all our finals games & somehow it seems less nerve racking to watch.

I think we played a very conservative game, perhaps ‘fearing’ losing a game we were favourites in, or perhaps in consideration of the conditions.

In any case we got the W & now play dogs in sudden death again. Seems it will be Sat night at Accor. Predictions of 80K dogs in the crowd fail to take into account there’s no $10 tickets for finals😳

Hope for good conditions & a more expansive game & we should account for the dogs.

The dream continues to live on :paw_prints::paw_prints:

Definitely missed Kenny today. Also, the refs didn’t do us any favours, especially in the first half.

There is a minimum 6 day turnaround in finals. With Raiders v Broncos being on Sunday, the only option will be to have the Panthers v Bulldogs game on Friday.

EDIT: Ch9 Have announced it as a Saturday game. Only way that could happen is if the other game is played Sunday. Guess we will wait & see.

It’s funny that when Api left the team there was doom and gloom. But Kenny has stepped up. Not by trying to be Api. But by being Kenny and doing it well.

It took us a little longer than usual to overpower them, but given the rain and penalties at the start of the game, not a bad showing at all.

I thought that once again, Leota stood up against Fish, Lindsay finding good form, Papali’i was close to MOTM, Yeo just keeps doing Yeo things (including a last tackle kick!). Cleary had the game on a string for the most park, Alamotti showed his strengths, To’o back to his usual best.

Special shout out to Schneider who didn’t overplay his hand at dummy half and worked within his abilities, and to Garner who while I thought was brought on too late, made an immediate impact.

Bring on the dogs! Hope they pick Galvin at half lol

:mega: Panther Pride Man of the Match voting is now open here.

This team is amazing with the way they can handle pressure and grind out a victory. Not their most clinical performance sure but there have been times in the past where we could only have dreamed to have a team make the finals, let alone go and win one in NZ.

Hopefully Kenny is fine to play next week and that Cleary hasn’t tweaked his hamstring/groin again. Both those things should lead to a better performance, not to mention better weather hopefully.

I thought Schneider and Sommerton were respectable today.

Papali’i was huge coming from the bench, the way he has turned his early season form around is astounding.

Alamoti was clutch again, great to see him in the side. Nathan was again masterful except for that long kick leading to a seven tackle set and them scoring to get back in it.

As a side note very curious who we have coming through to let both Luke and Sommerton go.

I thought that type of kick was clearly a planned move, he did it twice(?) in short succession (or back to back) but then promptly shelved it after the try.

Horrible looking weather. Seemed to take us a while to play to the conditions, pushing passes that shouldn’t have been pushed. Whilst it was a comfortable scoreline in the end it didn’t feel it for the majority of the game. Got the win, move on to next week. I thought we got lucky with a couple of tries and forward passes. I’ve been swearing at the TV for too many years watching those go against us, so I’ll take that as good fortune coming our way

Missed Kenny for sure, hopefully he is right to go for future games and that Cleary stays fit (enough). Dummy half service was much improved this game (last was horrid) but our attack is losing the edge with passes not quite hitting the mark.

Papali’i was huge. Before he came on I thought it must be time, the pack was losing oomf and needed someone to really punch forward. Garner was effective as well, shame he didn’t play more minutes.

Like many games this year it felt like we never got out of 2nd gear. I hope that’s not really our limit and we can lift in the upcoming games. Discipline is a concern.

Glad to see Alamoti in, I think he needs to be there, but I still think Jenko should be in the side. Tago the man to make space.

If we are to be premiers this year, there’s no doubting we would have earned it: Dogs, Raiders, Storm.

I was surprised how little time Garner was given yesterday. He has been a gun player for us this season.

Looks like the NRL are clueless again & according to NRL we play dogs on Saturday AND Sunday

Was just about to say this @mrwalker.

When we won they said it would be Saturday night… now ther are saying it’s Sunday Afternoon. Pick a lane guys.

The impact was obvious when he came on too, poking holes in the defensive line of the Warriors, and he didn’t give up on that Cleary monster kick, leading to the best try of the night.

Saw this as well. Looks like Sharks and Raiders have the week off.

That win was better than you think, the conditions firstly, not conducive to our style of play. The refereeing (across the weekend) was terrible. I was watching with Dragons fans and even they said the refereeing in our game was clearly one sided. Was he trying to ensure a contest?

Our effort early in defense in those conditions was bloody awesome. MOSES my man, aimed up and took the battle to the so called enforcer when he was at the Riff……I’ve always said MOSES WAS THE MAN.

I think the ref was letting the crowd get into his head. At one point I said they aren’t even watching the Warriors, they are too busy watching us make the slightest infraction.

I felt the same in the Raiders v Broncos match such a lopsided penalty count and the Raiders were getting the rub of the green (no pun intended).
