Sometimes events can turn on a dime. I hope that Liam Martin never loses his drive, but the off-season should give him time to consider how best to use it. Two of his actions probably led to two losses. Firstly, had he known the rules, surely essential for a professional footballer, he would have tackled the Canberra fullback in the Mudgee game (legal because the ball was on the bounce), and the ‘Miracle in Mudgee’ would never have eventuated. Secondly, rushing in to take on Mam almost certainly led to a penalty reversal and the loss of the preliminary final. Those two actions, in my mind, cost us a decent shot at the 5-peat.

Armchair coach here - but he never seemed 100% healthy all year - hopefully he gets a good rest not being selected for the England tour and can come back on fire next year. I don’t blame him entirely but I agree that they were contributions towards those moments that went against us.
