[2025] SF Bulldogs v Panthers - Game Day Thread

Wow. What a game so far! Reminds me strongly of the Eels v Panthers GF!

Hopefully continue this into the second half and no injuries.

Will look forward to seeing them up in here Bris!

Scrappy second half, but the job was already done.

Minutes 50 to 70 worry me at the moment, our standards seem to drop.

Nice to see we elevated into a higher gear for the first half. Very promising!

Just need to secure tickets to the game for next week!

Not a good idea to challenge unless you are 100% sure. The good thing about having the challenge in hand, it can tend to keep the ref honest, unconsciously knowing the Panthers can challenge. The only time to make a chancey challenge is 5 minutes from full time.

On the train home but still kinda shell shocked by the result, as I was at half time. We brought our A-game that first half. Once again played basically a trial in the second half.

Great win. We took our foot off the gas in the 2nd half, but we also did look sloppy. Our Left edge was a worry, the Dogs really gave us a workout. Maguire is a smart coach, I’m the Broncos will target us there next week. We’ll need to do a bit of work to shore things up this week.

Also, from the 60 minute mark, our line stopped being a wall & got very staggered. If that happens next week, Walsh & co will make us pay big time.

Fingers crossed Martin is ok.

Two down, two to go.

:mega: Panther Pride Man of the Match voting is now open here.

I think it was intentional. They had a eye on next week, who needs to be rested, who needs more game time etc.

It looks very much like the Bulldogs were a speed hump on this finals road, and only really got any ascendency when Penrith put the cue in the rack.

The Broncos I am sure will be a bigger threat.

It was obvious that they dropped back to second gear in the second half. Not taking too many chances. Just a shame that by taking their foot off, they let in those 3 tries.

I wonder if McLean not being 100% in the second half, contributed to those dogs tries. They all came down that side. And it can be difficult to hold them out when your defensive line is not able to work together. So you would hope that if he is healthy next week, they will hold those sort of tries out.

They were certainly singling him out. They knew he want 100% and Leota applying pressure to him.

Once Casey came off and Garner was shifted to centre the flow of advantage to Canterbury stopped.

Judiciary

Brad Schneider (Dangerous Contact 1) and Nathan Cleary (High Contact 1) were cited by the Judiciary.

Since both are grade one they will only receive a financial penalty. Both will be able to play next week against the Broncos

I didn’t even realise that Cleary was cited. Did he look at a bulldogs player the wrong way? Or did he show too much enthusiasm? I see the nrl is penalising this now.

So Tupouniua goes down, apparently injured and in great painn, and Schneider is put on report. Then a miracle occurs and Tupouniua takes a strong hitup 3 plays later, almost breaking the line. Whatever they pay the Scumdogs trainer, he needs a raise for performing miracles. it was a bit like watching soccer.

Well that was as comprehensive as it gets for a semi. Some may argue that the dogs brought themselves undone with mid season changes etc, but no matter who they had they would not have beaten us yesterday.

Well done to all. The dream continues. Having pretty well all hands on deck, fit & primed is what was going to be required to get thru from where we were.

Have to say, there was a lot of dogs ā€˜supporters’ leave early, but plaudits to some sitting around us who stayed until full time & offered congratulations to us for our team & wished us well & to win the trophy.

We go around again Sunday & who’s to say it can’t be done.

We are sure living in a remarkable era for the Panthers :paw_prints::paw_prints:

I was clear the difference in that game and why Penrith won by the margin they did.

The Bulldogs looked unorganised, the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing, so much chopping and changing this season had just lead to confusion on the field. Even if Crichton played, I don’t think the result would have been any different.

Penrith on the other hand have had changes too, sitting at last at the halfway mark was evidence of that but the finals series saw to what makes Penrith great, and what wins them games.

The playmakers decide the play, but the players jobs around him is to give him as many OPTIONS as they want. Just watching the team run around on the weekend at the stadium you could see it as clear as day, all the players knew where they had to be, but not all of them were on the same play… they were running a different options for the playmakers to take, some on the outside, some on the inside… some up the middle, some to make metres, some to exploit a gap… The problem for the opposition is which option do they take… you don’t know so you try to cover them all, and it leads to leaving a gap, or missing a tackle or making a bad read.

This causes havoc for the opposition, and it’s whats given Penrith the advantage for years, I’m glad to see it all falling back into place at the right end of the season.

But did the Scumdogs’ right edge expose a defensive weakness that we thought we had well and truly fixed during the season? Or was the weakness just an apparent flaw that resulted from McLean’s injury?
