With PNG being “tax free”, maybe the NRL need to look at having a separate salary cap for them to level the playing field. Alternatively, maybe give them a requirement of a minimum number of home grown players in their top 30.

IMO, PNG Chiefs are all about nationals security. Australia is to be “security provider of choice” and PNG kicked out of NRL if they progress with China.
All part of keeping China out of the pacific.

Some people don’t like the concept of foreign aid spending when there are difficulties at home, but foreign aid is really about diplomacy and keeping your neighbours on your side and potential adversaries at bay.

Love that Milky has extended! Although I did not doubt this would happen after his failed experiment with the knights.
Hopefully he speaks to other guys about the perils of thinking the grass is greener on the other side

I think that probably confirms To’o is leaving. Some of the money we’d have spent on To’o has allowed Jenkins to be given a - well deserved - contract upgrade.
Great to see him get a good contract. He’s really earned it.

Jesse has had his chance. Reality is that there is a logjam of players trying to get into those Centre/Wing roles in First Grade.
As somebody who watches a fair bit of NSW Cup games, it’s clear Jesse has some talent.
Is it enough to crack First Grade at Penrith? No.
Would he walk into a starting spot at another NRL club? Certainly could.
I think it’t unfair to hold him back at this point, I’m sure Casey understands, Rugby League is a highly competitive sport, and a team like Penrith are only going to keep the best of the best.
With kids like Sione Fonua, Patrick Moimoi, Jirah Liddiard and Nick Murphy coming through the pipeline in NSW Cup, I’m not sure Jesse is at the top of that list of players either.
If he can get a starting spot somewhere else, my suggestion would be to seize it.

Quite surprised at the news Moses has been granted permission to test the market.
I’m probably delusional, but I hope that is in some manner a way to lock him up. ie test the market now so you have your market value $ answer and we’ll lock in a deal. I know he’s said before he’d like to be a one club man. The bloke is a machine and I find it otherwise suprising we’d let him go.

I wouldn’t be so quick to panic regarding Moses Leota. It’s his last contract I would imagine. Not many forward get to play into the mid-30’s. His manage probably wanted to be sure to get a good idea of his worth before going to the table with Penrith. We will have the right to final offer anyway after another club tables an offer.
Moses has already stated to the media he would rather stay at Penrith.
In other news, the media are reporting that Mitch Kenny will put pen to paper on a 3 year extension at Penrith sometime next week.

Channel 9 news had a story and interview with Mitch Kenny, announcing he had re-signed for 3 years. Nothing on the Panthers website though

Also unless my memory fails me, while Cole was in our squad during the premiership years, don’t think he was in the 18 for any of our grand finals
I always thought Cole would go. He’s been around a couple of years and never cracked first grade consistently. His best chance was 2025, after Luai left & the 5/8 spot was between him and Talagi. Cole got about 6 weeks in first grade, then Talagi ended up getting the gig. And, no SHF, you’re right, he didn’t make the 18 for any of our Grand Finals.
I don’t think Cole was ever going to fulfil his potential at Penrith. A change of club is the best thing for him. Hope a fresh start in Perth works out for him.

… and in one of his games in 1st grade, he twice failed to find touch with a penalty kick, but found touch on the fly with a kick in general play. That was NOT a good look.
In a win for the media pundits who thought To’o would go, he has signed with the chiefs.
