Hopefully we can get on top of it quickly & limit the impact this time.
Driving around the CBD & Eastern Suburbs last night, my passenger numbers were only about a quarter of what I would expect for the Saturday before Christmas, even allowing for the weather. Most pubs & restaurants I drove past were very quiet too.
It looks like people are using some common sense this time around.
For the Sunday before Christmas, Penrithwas very quiet today and yesterday, especially the plaza and nepean square.
The exceptions were yesterday at the Homemaker Centre (Spotlight, Supercheap auto, Harvey Norman etc), which was busy as anything, and bunnings today, where I struggled to get a car park.
People appear prepared for lockdown (home improvement shopping) rather than the usual Christmas retail.
There’s a mini run of toilet paper again, a bit more orderly than last time.
At least I can breath the air outside unlike this time last year. Stay safe everyone!
had xmas today. last year I missed the kids thru covid and bushfires.
so done my duty today 20/12. had everyone round my place for lunch.
all gone now, geez it’s quiet. I hate covid lockdowns. I hate qlder’s
almost as much as I hate Manly supporters. But i love my Longbranch bourbon whiskey gift.
If the happenings at work today are any indication, we could be looking at harsher restrictions or a lockdown within the next few days. All the same moves are being made as last time.
Activated Covid leave again, which I doubt they would do at our busiest time of year without good reason. Have also had a lot of last minute changes to our Xmas work.
No passenger restrictions yet, but that could change quickly.
Purported traffic chaos as drivers rush to get out of town (Brisbane) to beat 6.00 deadline prior to a 72 hour lockdown commencement.
I am dumbfounded as to the varied ‘expert health advice’ line that is force fed us by pollies from all states. I am equally flabbergasted that none of them seemingly talk to one another prior to instigating policy on the run that may impact neighbouring states.
New South Welshmen ‘go home’, Qlder’s ‘stay home’.
I gave management a heads up about me being unable to wear masks for medical reasons over 6 months ago.
When mandatory masks were announced on the weekend, I contacted my supervisor straight away & he said he’d let me know.
I turn up for work on Tuesday (Monday was my RDO), only to find out I needed to provide them with more information from my doctor than I already had.
End up having to use to 2 sick days to get the necessary paperwork from my doctor & have it cleared by head office & NSW Health. Not happy that it cost me 2 sick days for something that should have been sorted out months ago (or at least could have been sorted out on my RDO).
Ironically I’d rather wear the masks. I qualify for an exemption in 4 different ways (and really should in another that they won’t accept), but am only interested in pushing it because of my pre-existing breathing problems which make it near impossible for me to do my job safely with a mask on. The other 3 exemptions don’t worry me at all, and wouldn’t stop me wearing a mask if I could.
Try one of those masks with the filtered valve. They allow you to breathe in without inhaling nasties. Insulation contractors have been known to use them as a foil for asbestos fibre.
I’ve tried a number of masks, have the same problem with all of them. One of my biggest triggers is humidity (one reason I’m looking to move out of Sydney soon), and every mask I’ve tried raises the humidity I’m breathing in & I start to get the precursors of an asthma attack, which isn’t good when your trying to control 16+ tonnes of steel in traffic.
is the tennis on? I decided to ignore it well before the event. To many entitled nufties in tennis for me to be remotely interested.
I suggest PVL needs to be in earnest talks with $Storm to get them out of Victoria well ahead of the season, and work on the basis they will be out of Melbourne until Sept
