Flood Warning - Nepean-Hawkesbury Rivers

Menangle, Camden, Wallacia, Penrith, North Richmond, Windsor, Sackville, Lower Portland, Wisemans Ferry and Putty Road

MAJOR FLOODING CONTINUES AT NORTH RICHMOND

WINDSOR PEAKED JUST BELOW MAJOR FLOOD LEVEL EARLY FRIDAY MORNING, MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING

RIVER LEVELS AT NORTH RICHMOND AND WINDSOR TO REMAIN BELOW MARCH 2021 EVENT

Along the Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean Rivers Major flooding continues at North Richmond where river levels peaked Thursday afternoon, below the March 2021 event. River levels at Windsor peaked slightly below the major flood level (12.20 metres) early Friday morning.

Moderate flooding is occurring along the Nepean River at Menangle. The Nepean River at Camden Weir and Wallacia has fallen below the moderate flood levels, with minor flooding continuing.

Warragamba Dam commenced spilling around 03:00am Wednesday.

A flood watch is current for the Upper Coxs and Macdonald River.

Catchments are saturated following recent heavy rainfall and further rainfall is forecast over the weekend which may result in renewed river level rises and prolonged flooding. The situation is being closely monitored and revised forecasts and warning updated will be provided if required.

Upper Nepean River

Moderate flooding is occurring at Menangle. Minor flooding is occurring at Camden and Wallacia.

The Nepean River at Menangle Bridge peaked at 15.60 metres around 08:00 pm Wednesday with major flooding. The river level is currently at 10.14 metres and falling, with moderate flooding. The Nepean River at Menangle Bridge may fall below the moderate flood level (9.20 m) during Friday.

The Nepean River at Camden Weir peaked at 10.43 metres around 03:00 am Thursday with moderate flooding. The river level is currently at 7.12 metres and slowly falling, with minor flooding. The Nepean River at Camden Weir is expected to fall below the minor flood level (6.80 m) Friday morning.

The Nepean River at Wallacia Weir peaked at 9.57 metres around 01:00 pm Thursday and is currently at 7.84 metres and falling, with minor flooding. The Nepean River at Wallacia Weir is likely to remain above the minor flood level (5.00 m) during Friday.

Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean River

Major flooding is occurring at North Richmond. Moderate flooding is occurring at Windsor and Sackville. Minor flooding is occurring at Penrith and Lower Portland. Moderate flooding is likely at Lower Portland and Wisemans Ferry.

The Nepean River at Penrith peaked at 8.10 metres around 03:00 am Thursday with moderate flooding. The river level is currently at 5.74 metres and slowly falling, with minor flooding. The river level is likely to remain above the minor flood level (3.90 m) during Friday.

The Hawkesbury River at North Richmond (WPS) peaked at 12.95 metres around 02:45 pm Thursday and is currently at 12.24 metres and slowly falling, with major flooding. The river level is likely to remain above the major flood level (10.50 m) during Friday into Saturday.

The Hawkesbury River at Windsor (WPS) peaked at 11.99 metres around 02:30 am Friday, with moderate flooding, slightly below the major flood level (12.20 m). The river level is currently 11.76 metres and steady. The river level is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (7.00 m) during Friday into the weekend.

The Hawkesbury River at Sackville is approaching a peak near 8.20 metres Friday morning, with moderate flooding.

The Hawkesbury River at Lower Portland is likely to peak near the moderate flood level (6.10 metres) Friday morning.

The Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry may peak near the moderate flood level (3.50 metres) around midday Friday, with the high tide.

Colo River

Moderate flooding is occurring along the Colo River at Putty Road.

The Colo River at Putty Road may peak near 6.50 metres Friday morning, with moderate flooding.

Flood Safety Advice

In life threatening emergencies, call 000 (triple zero) immediately. If you require rescue, assistance to evacuate or other emergency help, ring NSW SES on 132 500.

  • Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
  • Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
  • Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
  • Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.

IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE WITH LIVESTOCK

The NSW Government is providing assistance to flood-affected farmers and land managers.

An emergency hotline - 1800 814 647 has been activated for people to request assistance with livestock assessment and veterinary assistance, emergency fodder where access allows, and euthanasia and burial if required.

Members of the community should also call the emergency hotline number if they come across stranded, lost, injured or dead livestock, so that AASFA can arrange to attend to these animals.
