If he leads Australia to victory in the pac champs, he’ll get the title. (Golden Boot)
Love that stat - great to be a Panther fan right now
Those numbers just provide further evidence that the 2020’s Panthers are the greatest team ever to play Rugby League - 82% win ratio over 5 seasons is truly incredible.
People point to St George winning 11 comps in a row as the best & indeed it was a remarkable performance, albeit in totally different circumstances. They were just able to have the best players, attracting players who wanted to win with them & losing none of their stars - no salary cap, no quota on imports - a different playing field to modern NRL.
I once had a guy who I knew thru work. He had played with St George back in the 60’s, during their run. His name as a player was unknown to me as at the time, where any RL fan could rattle of 10 or more StG players, the others were ‘unknowns’. He told me he played reserve grade over a number of seasons. I asked him if he ever considered going elsewhere to play 1sts, and he replied that wasn’t how it worked. You were just happy playing for the best club, even in reserve grade, and having all the rep players playing ahead of you. Players at other clubs, including Raper who came from Newtown, came to be winners. You just didn’t even think of leaving.
We can only imagine where we would stand under similar circumstances today. If we still had the 2022 squad - to my mind our best lineup - how many games would we have won in 23 & 24? How long would the streak go? Of course we have won 4 in a row now, but it has got harder as we have lost many of the gooduns!
PENRITH PANTHERS - simply THE BEST!!!
This 100% - we couldn’t get anyone 10 years ago unless we paid overs for the aged or run of the mill. Now our Juniors are desperate to pull on the Panthers Jersey AND players with ability want to be at our club to prove their worth and win. It’s a MASSIVE advantage to have people want to play for your club.
Potential milestones & records for the 2025 season:
Isaiah Yeo 250 games (currently 245)
Moses Leota 200 games (currently 175)
Liam Martin 150 games (currently 126)
Scott Sorenson 100 games (currently 82)*
Izack Tago 100 games (currently 74)
Luke Garner 50 games (currently 29)*
Soni Luke 50 games (currently 24)
*For the club, have played elsewhere
Nathan Cleary highest point scorer (needs 1573, currently 1547)
Brian To’o 100 tries (currently 78)
Yeo & Cleary are pretty much a given. Other all need to play most or all if the season. In the case of To’o, would need to score almost every game.
With the Grand Final Rematch on this week, I thought I’d take a look at our previous Grand Final rematches to see how we shaped up over the years:
1991 Round 11 at Bruce Stadium:
Canberra 20 Penrith 0
1992 Round 1 at Bruce Stadium:
Canberra 14 Penrith 10
2004 Round 4 at Stadium Australia (Penrith Home Game):
Penrith 22 Sydney Roosters 6
2021 Round 3 at Penrith Stadium:
Penrith 12 Melbourne 10
2022 Round 4 at Penrith Stadium:
Penrith 26 Souths 12
2023: Round 4 at Western Sydney Stadium:
Parramatta 17 Penrith 16
2024 Round 3 at Penrith Stadium:
Penrith 34 Brisbane 12
Overall 4/7 in rematches, 3/5 as Premiers. The glaring statistic (unfortunately for us) is that the home team has won every one of those matches!!! Let’s hope we can change that tomorrow night.
Isaiah Yeo becomes the first Panther to play 250 games for the club when he takes the field on Friday night against the Cowboys.
Cleary needs just 4 points to become our greatest point scorer. Surely it happens tonight!!!
Probably just before half time
