I thought that trial was exactly what we wanted, heavy defensive workload whilst still maintaining the front at half time.
Just on the reggies who came on in the 2nd half, everyone puts in with the exception of that fullback (name escapes me) he was the same in the Cows game, very timid when it comes to the contest. I don’ t like the fact he is being positioned as our back up to Dyl, surely we will use Jenko or Alomoti at the back before him, bring in Jesse Mclean on the wing. Anything will be better than that young bloke at the back letting tries in.
I understand your concern about the back up FB. But realistically how can they develop if they don’t play first grade? I remember when Dylan first started at FB there were some concerns. But he has developed into one of the greats.
It should be noted that during that second half there were few key players (if any) on the field. When bringing new players up to speed they need to be surrounded by experience.
Justice prevails! That was hard legal contact to the shoulder - not the head.
Thought our first grade forwards played great - just how good is Papali’i!
For mine the 5 into 4 battle for the 3/4’s is a no brainer - To’o and Milky on the wings, McLean and Allamoti in the centres, Tago just looked uninterested , unfit or both.
there seems to be a big gap between our first 19 or so players and the rest. As I said last week it looks like they haven’t played together (which is probably true).
I can’t be too hard on Edgar, he has basically come straight from Flegg after all. A season of Cup will do him good
Our right side defence was a worry in the first half, with all our first graders playing. We were constantly getting beat outside. I worry also about Edwards.
Great news with Cleary escaping any suspension! I hear Ivan represented him.
With Edwards, I just thought he wasn’t committing himself to 100% defence so he didn’t risk an injury in a non important game. Noticed he pulled out of diving at the feet of the opposition (think it was the first try they scored). He looked fit as usual though
Fair calls on Edgar and I’m prepared to give the benefit of the doubt, however bad the look of avoiding the contest. Hopefully a season against men will provide the necessary growth. Just on Dyl HP, before he hit 1st grade, didn’t he have a stat that he always broke the 1st tackle in a season?
I remember the concern under the high ball and that was proven early in 1st grade, but his running ability is what makes him great. Didn’t really get to see Edgar in flight, but looks like he can move lol
