I was impressed with a couple of our new recruits, esp. Cogger. He defended very well & covered a couple of positions, including lock when Yeo went off. Billy Phillips also did well, Kalani Going was honest without being great, I’ll look forward to seeing him progress once he settles in.
Papali’i did a lot of the hard stuff, as always, but he needs to learn to hold onto the ball. He made a lot of errors, especially in the first half. Ditto Edwards, he can’t seem to get through a game without a couple of knock ons. He needs to work on ball security as well.
Watched Flegg & Cup. In both games we looked like we were going to record significant wins against teams we were better then, but just weren’t able to put them away.
In Flegg we finished the game well with some late points to beat the Fiji boys, but the final score was not really indicative of how the game was played. Room for improvement.
In the Cup, we seemed quite disorganised and only got the W with 3 tries in the last 5 minutes. Again, room for improvement.
I suggest that NSW Cup overall will be a lesser standard, with the 19 man NRL lineup, plus a 20th standby, diluting the talent pool, not just for us but for all. I guess it will be easier when the NRL and Cup sides play games where they can have everyone get a game, but it will require some management.
Anyway 2 wins!
