Take this with a grain of salt, as IVan and the club are obviously keeping a few things close to their chest, but I expect the team to look something like this;

Edwards
Casey McLean
Alamotti
Tago
To’o
Cole
Cleary
Smith
Kenny
Leota
Martin
Sorrenson
Yeo

Schneider
Patea
Henry
Geyer / Papali’i

The above is based upon Garner apparently still injured, and no word on Blaze. Also based on the single public trial game, I would have Geyer ahead of Papali’i but unsure how we played in the firsts vs cup trial.

The off season drought of footy is almost over!

Updated Team List

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has updated his squad for the 2025 NRL season-opening clash with Cronulla Sharks in Las Vegas.

Isaiah Papali’i is set to make his club debut from the Panthers bench in the landmark USA match.

Brian To’o (hamstring) and Liam Henry (shoulder) are both unavailable through injury.

The Panthers will wear the 2025 alternate jersey for the match at Allegiant Stadium. The striking, black-and-gold kit pays tribute to the club’s six premiership triumphs.

Not in Vegas, at home on the lounge.

The title defense starts now. Not an ideal preparation, but the boys know their jobs Game On!!

Very ordinary first 20 mins, with a lot of uncharacteristic errors & a few interesting refs calls. The backline reshuffle may have contributed to that. We have worked our way into the game in the last 20 & are starting to look like ourselves again.

I’m confident if we keep to our system we will win this.

Maybe would should swap sides with Laurie and Alomotti as the Garner / Laurie / Cole side seems to be seeing all the traffic.

Some strange ref calls for sure, especially that no- try against Lindsay/ Cleary.

That was a bad HIA for Cassie

A decent game, but far from our best. Big game experience was probably what got us home in the end. It’s scary to think how good we will be when we get going.

Considering we lost Casey in the 2nd minute, didn’t have To’o or Henry in the team, and we played last years third best team, not a bad effort at all.

Areas to improve to be sure, but a better start than previous seasons.

My god how good was Martin, he may not get the stats, but his terrorism of Kennedy all game led to the result we wanted. It’s like he was playing state of origin (or the 24 grand final lol)

I did like the jerseys. Wanderers did a similar colour scheme a few years ago. But I think the Panthers did it better.

We didn’t have an ideal last few weeks going in to start the season, but prevailed in a less than perfect game. Positive signs for the title defence for sure.

Quite a few errors, an early injury, a few too many penalties & a couple of woeful short kicks handing possession to the gummies in good position made the task harder for us, but we prevailed, a great sign.

It is clear that we have worked to rejig our attack post Luai, with Edwards, NC & Cole playing a different strategy which was a bit clunky with Pickles throwing more bad passes in the game than he did in last season total, but it worked and we got the chokkies. Slick passing to the edges found the gummies out and resulted in 3 tries.

Once again we were able to dominate defensively for much of the game, which has proven to be the basis of the past 5 seasons success, only the errors we made giving the gummies their chances.

Based on recent season 17 wins is likely a top 2, and 16 a top 4, so with 1 from 1 we need to get 16 more and have our best team available for Sept. Easy to say, harder to do, but I’m confident we will give it a good shot

I can’t believe we are not calling out the shit ref calls…that first half was all one sided.

Anyway…Yer Marto was a beast, I thought Leota was soft in the first half but stood up in his 2nd stint. Yeo’s try, would have been a penalty try if he didn’t score, Hazelton was standing next to the play the ball, then got involved in the attempted tackle.

The 2nd half gave me a lot more confidence about our 5fa, plenty to work with.

Has there been any word on Casey McLean? He took a nasty knock.

Nothing I have read, but good thing we have this week, as ge wouldn’t play if we had to this weekend

I’ve seen on Twitter that apparently a few our boys had a disappointing game in NSW Cup yesterday. The Vegas come-down is probably very real - and hopefully that’s the reason Talagi and Schneider had disappoint games.

I thought Schneider & Talagi played pretty well & Talagi gave himself a fitness test by pulling off a big hit in defense, so looks like he has recovered from the surgery.

Milky was the standout player in the game, along with the Jets halfback.

Overall the team made too many errors including 3 times losing the ball in grounding it for tries, so they could have won. The jets are a good side, winning the comp last year.
