R10 Cowboys v Panthers - Game Day Thread

I would be surprised if Schneider is not 14.

Looking at today’s updated team list, I would say Schneider no 14, Eisenhuth onto the bench and Sommerton the 18th man. I suspect that Jenkins will miss out this week.

Didn’t see the game, but Flegg beat West Tigers 40-20 at Parker St last night. Couple of late tiges tries made the final score closer.

Watched the last 50’ of Cup from Tamworth. Panthers beat West Magpies 40-16. Looked pretty good, a bit too much class for the pies, with part-time 1sts players Casey McLean, Laurie, Cole & Toelau showing they are a step above Cup level. Big Preston Riki bagged his first try for the year.

I’m with Gogatee. Nothing against Schneider, but I think Toelau offers more. He had a rough night against Souths (he wasn’t the only one, either!), but he’s done well every other time he’s been in the side.

I never mind Huth on the bench

While he is not flashy, he’s always a hard, solid, dependable player with limited mistakes.

Reasonable first half. We are winning the arm wrestle. Would prefer to be more than 6 ahead with the amount of possession we have had.

I’m sitting here watching swearing at the TV.

First try had a pass go 3metres forward and then a basketball pass that I thought looked sus.

Now the try to go from 18 to 24 points went fwd and not picked up.

Momentum has been lost :see_no_evil:

And missed offside for Bateman picking up the ball which should have been a penalty at the death.

Be lucky to get out of jail here.

How did we not get a penalty for offside when it went forward off Drinkwater?

Why did we not take the opportunity for field goal in the last minute?

Now extra time…

Only thing keeping us in the game now is their inability to kick a field goal.

Hope second GP period is better

We blew a couple of opportunities to take the field goal late in regulation time & in GP.

I’ve never been a fan of GP, so in a sense I’m happy with a draw.

Hoping they can get the 2 points next week. But the bye will put up a fight.

:mega: Panther Pride Man of the Match voting is now open here.

If you had told me before magic round we’d beat the broncos and draw with the cowboys I would have taken it but silting here today it doest feel that great.

Had multiple opportunities to ice this game, all through regular time and in GP. We really needed 1 or 2 more tries out of that first half given the field position - that last set before the end of the first half was so clunky, I think Kenny almost threw one over Cleary’s head.

Back to being mere mortals I guess.

This seems to be the new Penrith – a bit of good, a bit of bad. Our brick wall defence is at times a distant memory. We were starting to look the goods, then the bad stepped in; a poor end to a set on their line, then penalised, then penalised again, then 6-again, and then their first try. From the penthouse to the shithouse in a minute. To requote the players from last week – ā€œI’ve seen that beforeā€.

Apart from the lapses that twice threw away solid leads, there is the usual bitching about the referee. There will always be contentious issues for both teams, but how many times was Cleary tackled mid-kick, off the ground? Not to mention the non-penalty for the Bateman offside, that would have given us the winning penalty goal.

Notwithstanding, not being beaten by Nth Qld on their home ground, after a week on the road, and when the cognoscenti were predicting a Nth Qld win, is perhaps a good outcome. But is that the level to which we now aspire? We really desperately need table points before SOO. At least our for-and-against puts us in a position to quickly climb with a few consecutive wins. For starters we can be somewhat confident of picking 2 points for the bye.

The NRL would have been ecstatic with ā€œSuper Saturdayā€ Dragons Warriors 1 point, Pennies and Cows draw after 90 minutes…then the Storm went bezerk and destroyed their intent for the marketing tool.

We were robbed hard, 3 forward passes to score their first, then in the 2nd half we got pinged for it with a ball that travelled less than 2mtrs…That offside play on call beggars belief.

There were probably calls gone the other way as well.

Reffing in this game was atrocious.

Nfi what Kenny was thinking at the death there with a run on 5th instead of a waiting Cleary for FG.

Easy to point the finger at some of these things, but at the end of the day we still have an issue in defence to address.

They should never have gotten to 30.

Interesting

This was a break in play that I couldn’t work out after a Panthers try… there was a stoppage and the Fox League broadcast camera was not on it.

I thought it was odd that Todd Payton had pointed out the Panthers doing his in the post game presser, I mean I have seen a many trainer do this live at games.

Now I see why, he was preempting the potential pointing out of the ref taking the wet ball and kicking it to the side line after the Cowboys trainer was busted. After the media didn’t ask a single thing about it he must have thought he was home free.
