Not a good start, although there is a question if Leota was lifted past the horizontal in the first tackle.

Did Panthers leave the sticky spray in Penrith?

Very uncharacteristic first half, too much dropped ball. Looks like that first tackle might have rattled us a bit. Probably lucky to be equal at the break.

I do hope when Lussick comes back on that Cogger switches to 5/8th - Blaze is having an absolute shocker, Tago not much better

There were quite a few making uncharacteristic errors at the start. Can’t put it down to just a couple of players.

Too many dumb errors cost us. Kept putting ourselves under pressure & we were gassed in the back end of the game.

They were physically dominated all night by a quality side that flew off the line in defence and gave our key players no time or space with the ball. It completely disrupted our attack. If the rest of the competition follows that blueprint, we’re going to be in serious trouble.

Congratulations to Jason Taumalolo on his 300 games.

Humidity is not our friend.

How good was Edwards in defence. Score would have been a lot bigger if it wasn’t for him.

I think he has done everything he can to show he is the best fullback in the state and deserves a recall to SOO. But who knows what Daley is thinking this week.

I’ve defended Blaize to family & friends for a while. Time to pull the pin. He has absolutely no vision, can’t read the play & just isn’t up to standard. Please Ivan, start Cogger.

Things are not looking good for next week. SOO players out and a sorry loss this week. Hopefully this means that they don’t turn up thinking that the game is already won.

That was pretty hard to watch. The cows were up for the game as a big game for Taumalolo’s 300th. Other clubs seem to ‘celebrate’ the milestones better than we do.
After the worst possible start, we struggled to get in the groove with just too many errors killing us, but somehow found a way to get in the lead.
We are struggling big time, almost unbelievably after the 68-0 performance just a few weeks ago. We look to have gone into our shell a bit in attack as a consequence perhaps of, well, I really don’t know.
Nathan is trying just too hard, which I think some others are also doing. Nathan has performed so well, week in week out, since around 2019, and when it just doesn’t work, he starts to force the issue and the bad plays come. A clear sign is when he starts doing stupid kicks, as he did last night when he tried a grubber trick play in our half, again handing possession and field position to the cows.
Our domination of field position, which has stood us in good stead for the last 6 1/2 season has suddenly ceased and we just aren’t contolling the game as well as we have done.
Some of the boys, especially Yeoy, look tired and can do with a rest, if not for a game, but maybe on the training paddock. I’d be happy for crazy Daley to not pick any of our guys for SOO3 for the benefit of our team for the rest of '26.
Dylan was an absolute standout in this game - who know what the score would have been if he didn’t play. He is truly a remarkable player.
Anyway, we are still clear leaders on the ladder and the other 16 teams would just love to be there, so it’s over to IC to get the team firing again.
See you all Friday night.

A few frustrating things in the game for sure.

In the first half it seemed like if we just held the white pill-shaped object, we marched up field with absolute ease.

I understand MadMurrayFarquhar’s frustration with Talagi. Last year there were many times he’d be a defensive liability. Sometimes it seems his grip on the ball is a little light and spills it a too frequently when getting tackled and either defensive teams are reading his pass too easily, or he’s not reading the defence quick enough and holding the pass back.

And we thought that last week was disappointing. This last game takes that to a new level. I’m not sure that I’ve seen such an error-riddled start to a game before. Seems to be a combination of not realising that Nth Qld would be up-tempo for such an iconic game, inattention to detail, plus plain stupidity at times. Have they not been made aware of the impact of humidity? Another thing; am I mistaken, or were a lot of NQ tackles aimed at the ball in the way that Canberra does? Perfect for a hot, humid day.

For many years we’ve been so good defensively that we generally only had to field long, defensive kicks. In such a scenario, To’o was able to take the kick uncontested and then to make plenty of return metres. After so much possession given away lately, the opponents are now more often able to do an attacking kick. Jenkins is equal to most of the NRL wingers, but To’o is being found wanting in this era of tall timber wingers. This also seemed to apply to SOO2.

At this rate, I expect Souths to win next week, and see Souths, Manly, NZ and Redcliffe as equally likely for the premiership as us. We could have opened up an 8 point premiership lead after the past two weeks, so that’s a golden opportunity blown.

As for Talangi, maybe its time for him to spend some time in reserves. Maybe he needs to spend some quality one-on-one time with Dyl to see how a class player operates.

The reserves have been going great, suggesting that there is depth there. Is a beefed-up Liddiard a winger-in-waiting? Maybe Tago might find himself there when McLean returns. And is Clarke a better back row option than the current Tago. But the flogging by St George on the weekend might put that idea to bed.

I noticed we had quite a few lost ball with defenders bouncing off and pulling the arm carrying ball.

This was on top of instances like Moses where a shoulder jarred the ball free.
