The Penrith District Junior Rugby League has cemented itself as a national leader in women’s rugby league development, becoming the first junior league district in the world to offer on-age female competitions across every age group - U8, U10, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U18, and Open Women’s. This inclusive structure has helped drive a 34% surge in female participation, with nearly 1,300 girls registered in 2023 alone.

Building on this grassroots success, the Penrith Panthers entered junior representative pathways with teams in both the Tarsha Gale Cup (U18s) and Lisa Fiaola Cup (U16s). In a historic debut, the Panthers won the inaugural Tarsha Gale Cup title in 2017, defeating the Bulldogs 26–18 in the Grand Final, an early sign of the strength of Penrith’s women’s development system.

Now, the next chapter begins. This week marks a major milestone as the Penrith Panthers enter the NSWRL Women’s Premiership, the elite open-age competition just beneath the NRLW. Early signs are promising: in pre-season trials, Penrith defeated St George Illawarra 32–4 and edged out the Newcastle Knights 12–8, showing defensive grit and attacking potential.

This move brings Penrith one step closer to fielding a team in the NRLW, the top-tier professional women’s competition in Australia. It’s a huge credit to the players, coaches, staff, and the wider Panthers community, who have all helped shape one of the most complete women’s league systems in the country.

Congratulations to everyone involved—this is more than just a team taking the field. It’s a long-term vision coming to life.

Very conservative approach taken with them not playing Fri night to be backup for a game 9 days later.

watched the games last evening - 2 wins for the Panthers vs bunnies.

In Flegg, Panthers were far better than the opposition winning 46-18. Jirah Liddiard, playing FB, looks an outstanding prospect. Half Tylor Bunting & Zakauri Clarke also stood out in a great performance across the park. Only some late points from the bunnies made the score look closer,
In Cup, a somewhat understrength lineup got off to a terrible start, being 10-0 down after just a few minutes, before running up a good lead before again letting the bunnies back into the game, hanging on to win. Team looks well positioned for a run in the finals, when back to full strength across the grades.
