NRL Updated Team List

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has updated his squad for tomorrow’s top-four blockbuster against the Rabbitohs at CommBank Stadium.

It’s Jack Cole’s 23rd birthday today. He’s starting at centre instead of Tago. Hope he has a blinder!! :+1: :+1: :+1:

We have looked good in patches. Edwards & Henry have been our best.

Cole at 5/8 is working very well, Blaixe in the centres not so much.

Edwards having a blinder.

It’s going to be be a close one

Much better second half, with good contributions across the park.

Well, I don’t know what the answer is to 5/8.

But shifting Cole to 5/8 whilst Blaize is in the side and no Cleary might be telling

Felt clunky and not fluid at times.

Do we have another gun fullback coming up? Edwards looks like he’d slot in well at 5/8

We originally recruited Edwards as a half, he had to move due to the Cleary/Luai combination as a junior. In attack he often plays as an extra playmaker anyway.

Best part of the game was the last 10 minutes when all the souffs supporters went home.

The Blues could do with a player like Dylan.

On further thought, Edwards needs to stay FB. Brings so much extra with his free roaming.

But Cole or Blaize? Hmm. Cole has had his chances in the past.

In Ivan we trust :joy:

Why arent Jenkins and Edwards in the Blues team…what more do they need to do.

Well that end the State of Origin disruption period, and we got a glimpse into the future.

Some player observations;

Edwards - a perfect captains knock, once again in some of the best form of his career, and makes Daley look like a fool for picking Teddy ahead of him.

Milky - say no more, he has become an absolute freak with his defence, running and leaping. How he is not playing for NSW is beyond me. The form winger in the competition by a country mile.

Alamotti - becoming a beast of an elite centre. Taking his game to the next level

Blaze - interesting choice to switch him to centre, looked lost especially in defence. Not sure he should be in our starting 13 next game, maybe a spell in Cup would do him good.

Cole - brought his strong defence to the game and asks a question of selection in the future. I belive he should get first crack at 5:8 next game or two, so we can work out the best combination heading into the finals. His running game reminds me of Cleary’s, possibly a better kicking game than Cogger

Cogger - generally a good game, strong in defence and organisation, let down by his lack of depth when kicking. Not sure he makes our 19 man team in the finals.

Leota - a strong performance yet again, as we have come to expect. Hope after he shops around the club matches his highest number and makes him a Panther for life.

Lussick - Another good solid performance

Henry - Wow,what a performance. We will miss him next year for sure, will be Perths best player

Sorro - I hate to say this, but his best days are behind him. Prop rotation is only the current way he makes our fully fit squad. He may be eclipsed by others by the end of the year.

Smith - if worse comes to worse and we loose Yeo, we have an able replacement in Smith. I feel the more time he spends at lock , the better he will become. Played 80 minutes and never looked fatigued, huge motor and huge skill, learnt when to pass and when to run a bit better in this game

Phillips - a great game from an emerging talent, the more he plays the better he is coming, looks like a real emerging star of the future

Scott - got the longest minutes so far in first grade and looks the goods, probably the most complete and developed hooker who has come up through the ranks since Kenny. He should only improve more with more game time. Looks an able replacement next year for Lussick

Going and Patea - did the job required but not really knocking on the door for a first grade squad spot when everyone fully fit

Tago - he doesn’t make our starting side and no sure he offers more than Garner or others on the bench. Seems way down on form and confidence

Pretty good summary there SHF. Not much else to add!

The halves move leaves me perplexed. What is obvious is we don’t have a solid replacement for Cleary should he move on. Cole v Talagi, not sure why I’m wondering this, but I don’t know. I feel like Cole is a more solid, reliable option, but Talagi more x-factor. But that then gives me flashbacks of Tyrone Peachy and his rocks and diamonds performances.

There was articles recently about Cole being shopped around with super league, so would suggest he’s not in the long term plans. But then why slot him in to 5/8 over Blaize?

Yeo v Smith: as an individual not noticing a huge chasm when Yeo isn’t there. Much like Kenny v Lussick. Smith is on contract for a bit, so hopefully continues improving and will be a solid replacement.

Edwards: no words. How do we stop his aging and tie him up forever. His game has improved so much.
