Coggs is out for 3 weeks with early plea, up to 4 should he fail:
With his record this is no surprise. Needs to work on his technique when he gets too enthusiastic.
Absolutely. He tends to rush out of the line to make the hit a lot. He has a lot of missed tackles, but somehow our line holds steady. I think even his missed tackles are effective enough to disrupt the attacking move.
But he absolutely needs to lower his target and belt the ribs and ball. That way there is the odd chance he’ll dislodge the ball, not spend time on the sidelines
I don’t know what is going on with Edwards, but he was at it again last night. Getting into fights and losing his cool on the field. I’m not sure if this is a “new attitude” thing or he has something personal going on but it starting to really affect his game.
If it is a new attitude thing, he might want to drop it, because it’s not working. I want the solid Edwards with the the killer work rate and reliable football we all have come to know him for.
Initially I didn’t see this, but that was a very good defensive performance especially with the sin bins and being outnumbered.
That was a superb start; it seemed that the lessons of the past 2 months were finally being realised. Then things turned on their heads. We didn’t help matters much, like when we had a shitty pass, a dropped ball, 6-again and then a penalty, all within 60 seconds. WTF.
We have all bemoaned when we think that the officials are working to a pre-set agenda, but last night was the epitome of that ecosystem. Well done, officials, you almost pulled off a beauty. You’d almost think that there was something suspicious going on. It’s a bit rich, with the system hoping that Penrith are not in the GF because of the look of the game, yet milking, which is a blot on the game, is becoming an epidemic. Presumably Melbourne train for it. It’s almost as if Cameron Smith is still playing.
Defence tends to win premierships, and we are starting to look the goods.
The hip-drop on Leota that was not a hip-drop defies understanding. I won’t do us any good, but I hope that Penrith has a bitch to the NRL about such a blatant misinterpretation. We have lost Kenny for most of the season for the same tackle, and could have lost Leota as well.
If the Rorters win the minor premiership, for-and-against becomes important, the difference between playing NZ in Auckland or Parramatta. We were set for a solid improvement to that statistic until the officials took control of the outcome. Now we need to hope that whoever plays NZ for the next 3 weeks keeps the scores low, or that the Rorters lose a game.
NC has just given Bizza his century of tries, so he can now redirect his bombs to Milky’s corner to that he can keep ahead of Alex Johnston for leading tryscorer.
Whelp, warriors made up the point differential in the first game. Can see us finishing 3rd, unless we demolish the tigers again!
The good thing about the timing of our game against the Tigers is that we will know exactly how much we need before we take the field. I live in hope that either Newcastle or Manly can upset the Warriors to make things easier for us.
Yeah, a lot of errors & ill discipline that needs to be addressed ASAP. But,I thought we showed pretty good resilience to tough out a win with no ball in the 2nd half, against a Melbourne side with their season on the line, and Grant & Munster back.
Hopefully, we can put that kind of win in the bank & draw on it in the finals.
Let’s all thank the tigers for helping us

It’s a very tight finish for the Top 4 (namely 3). All on 38 points (Dolphins on 36). The run homes:
- Warriors (295 diff): Knights & Eagles
- Panthers (294 diff): Dogs & Tigers
- Roosters (163 diff): Dolphins & Rabbits
- Dolphins (36 points - 138 diff): Roosters & Titans
We need big wins against the dogs and tigers, so we are not dependent on other results.
With strong wins we can again be set to claim the minor premiership. But, regardless, it’s in our own hands to win the coveted top 2 spot; we need to win the two remaining games. The key is not to have to travel to NZ; that is a far more intense home-ground advantage than we’d face against the Rorters. This, of course, assumes that Redcliffe don’t make the top 2, and that seems highly unlikely.
The NRL should be checking the chook players’ tab accounts. Pretty high odds in that game.
This is the simplistic answer.
Although I’m concerned about the impact of Cogger. Dogs will be up to challenge in trying to keep their (slim) top 8 hopes alive and the Tigers will be looking to make a statement after the drubbing we delivered them.
Hopefully the Roosters and Warriors ease up a little, particularly after a series of hard games.
We do need to rebuild though. We stumbled hard post-Tigers game and the Origin period. Cleary (?) mentioned that there may have been too much view on the ladder and not focusing on the week to week stuff, so hopefully Thursday’s game is the start of that and we build nicely into the finals.
Hopefully by now players have realised that games are not forgone conclusions, no matter what the betting odds are.
Last year the bunker, Refs and NRL manufactured a Brisbane premiership to ensure QlD tv ratings, this year they are trying their hardest to make it anyone but Penrith.
Despite the adversity we pulled of one of the best defensive efforts ever. Lindsay Smith is sure settling into the Yeo role.
Pity we loose Cogger, he was owning the 6 position. I suspect Cole will be next man up,
Bellyache was gracious in defeat and gave Penrith and Cleary compliments- what a world we live in ![]()
Good luck to them, we’ll put one hell of a fight, that’s for sure. ![]()
Based on the refereeing “decisions” that I have been seeing this year, it looks like the NRL is pushing for a warriors premiership this season. They are currently travelling a lot higher than they should be with the aid of support from the officials.
Considering that the NRL is wanting to drum up support in NZ and the possibility of a second NZ team, this would explain the NRL agenda.
There has also been a lot of whinging by warriors supporters over the last few years, blaming the referees for their inconsistent performance. That can only add fire to this agenda.
Also, success in NZ would convince PNG supporters that they have a chance in coming years.
I think you could be on the money HP.
I don’t think the message is “make them win” but the powers that be would have a message within the message. For all the reasons HP mentioned, and probably many more around having the game being intriguing to new viewers and how that can’t happen with a single team winning each year.
