Saw this a few times in the last week and thought it would be a good point for discussion.
What do you think of the rules currently?
What do you think could be changed?

Personally I would scrap the guess agains. They leave no room for scrutiny, and their effect of longer periods with ball in play is leaving players under fatigue making mistakes they usually wouldnāt, in particular careless/dangerous tackles.
Iāve never been a fan of the 7 tackle set for the ball going dead in goal. There is already a 20m advantage, no need for the extra tackle. Maybe as a compromise, have it only apply for kicks within the attacking 20.
Iāve never been a fan of golden point either. A draw is still a result, and there is no good reason to put both teams through another 10 minutes to get a potentially different result. As was seen last year, our draw against the Cowboys ended up being a deciding factor in the final ladder.
Guess agains are the perfect opportunity for the refs to control the results. No chance to contest them no matter how outrageous.
The guess agains although great in theory and they have had the desired result, i.e. stopping Melbourne from controlling a game through ruck holds, are not helping our game as a whole. The Refs now have a āneedā to even things up but the disparity of a 6 agains on the 4th at halfway vs a 1st tackle inside your own 20 are ridiculous results for the same infringement. Not sure what we need to do to fix it, but we do need something to stop the anarchy that was Cameron Smith.
100% on the golden point, a draw is a result and having 2 teams flog their gutz out and still get a point on the competition table is enough.
I like the new rule with the 7 tackle set, i think it is now OK, you deliberately kick it dead bad luck, but if their is an effort to score itās only a 6 tackle set. Iām happy with this new adjustment.
What Iām getting the shits with more n more is the āmove off the mark go backā where as if the ref calls held and someone is in the act of stripping it, itās a penalty, but if the ball carrier off loads after the held callā¦..give it back to him and play the ball. Why not just give the stripped ball back and say play it? We are allowing the ref to pick n choose.
Go back to penalties and then penalise Storm for slowing the play the ball. Get rid of guess agains. Pretty easy solution.
Yer i would be happy with that HP - At the end of the day, if a team is āplaying the refā and you get too many penalties for the same thing, the 5 in the bin would be a great deterrent.
Iāve following league since the 60ās, when they changed the rules to stop St. George winning more premierships, they nearly didnāt succeed.
The level of criticism then was unbelievable, but everybody finally accepted it when St. George lost the Prelim Final. But people kept on criticising till they changed it again to 6 tackles and everybody was sort of happy but not. Well they couldnāt go back to unlimited tackles now could they because St George would start winning again. This is my recollection from that time.
All the teams are playing to the same rules and there are two teams that have adjusted to the rules and they are very successful. It seems the other 15 teams are NOT ADJUSTING to the rules and that is on them.
To me it seems there is no resilience any more and C Munster is a whiner of the highest order when things donāt go his way or his teams way. Suck it up baby. He just wants to stand offside all day in defence like he did in 2020 grand final. Dead Set Whinger.
Anyway thatās my two bobs worth
Forged by what was.

I must be one of the few who are neutral to it? (or even like it)
We seem to stumbled when refs get whistle happy and the game devolves into a stop-start mess, especially in the second half when fatigue is setting in. I think the Panthers playbook is well suited to the current game.
I understand some of the criticism of the current system and agree with it somewhat, but not sure what the alternative answer is.
My biggest annoyance is inconsistencies from week to week and forward passes.
Over all though, enjoying watching NRL at the moment!
Agree, but we now have the adjudicating being āon the runā rather than stop reset. I wonder how many of these 6 agains would be called a penalty if the ref had to stop the game. Iāve got no issue with the fact the Pennies are owning the effort with the current modelā¦My issue is the power of influence without the immediate audit. Itās a matter of time before we start singing the song of being the victimsā¦the tall poppyās getting taken down to even the contest, ala St George.
