Well said, steamboat farmer!
I donāt think Wayde Egan had a particularly bad game (he did score and set up a try). However, i think the delays to his passing from dummy half needs to be addressed. I believe Michael Ennis picked up on this last season. I had hoped that he would have worked on it. Those couple of millseconds are the difference between some of our players breaking their noses through, or getting smashed. I think it also could have contributed to some of the poor ball security.
Back 5 were not on today at all. Melbourne look like a well-drilled machine. That should be our benchmark. Weāre nowhere near that and we play them in 2 weeks time.
Again, its Round 1 - but if we really are premiership favourites we should look like it.
To me this reeks of 2017 - a talented side that looked ready to take the next step, rocked by a sex scandal on the eve of the season, and a very ordinary performance in Round 1.
I thought that our forwards were mostly solid, with the exception of Tamou who was our best by a long way. Our halves & backs were ordinary at best.
There were a few questionable decisions, such as Edwards being taken out, Blakeās no try & knock on that went a good 3 metres back, but we need to learn to get over these things quickly & not rely on the officials doing the right thing by us if we want to be serious contenders.
On todayās performance we have a long way to go. Hopefully we will bounce back quickly, if not the gauntlet we have to run early could see us on life support before Origin.
Probably the worst performance from the outside backs I have ever seen as a supporter. 1/10.
Not only did they make most of the errors, they didnāt contribute to the go forward.
Run Meters - Mansour 93 - Whare 46 - Blake 102, DWZ - 95, Edwards- 128
A lot of the performances would deserve a stint in reserve grade. But you canāt drop the whole backline.
The Penalties were Juvenile and some of the errors were made under no pressure.
Canāt win without field position or the ball.
Canāt look good without the ball.

SHAME!! SHAME!! SHAME!!
For mine the glaring issue is our ruck speed, we donāt fight to get to our feet, yet we are the fastest release of the ball carrier. We need to push the boundaries like all the other teams, holding down in the tackle but on the flip side fighting for every second to try and play the ball quickly.
The Chairmanās ticket was free and I guzzled about 15 New into meā¦oh and almost punched out a featherdick supporter, I hate those grubs.
I also think Eganās ability to run out from dummy half concerning. Wallaceās delivery and runs from dummy half almost made it easy getting up field. The delivery yesterday afternoon, was slow and clunky and had us trapped in our half most attacking sets.
Iām hoping Katoaās specialist training with Wallace produce similar results to Wallaceās stint at Hooker.
if we had Peachey coming off the bench yesterday afternoonā¦we would have won that game. Just a thought.
One of those days I guess. Maybe the distractions have taken their toll?? It was there for all to see in the trial, but, with 2 weeks to correct, not much effect.
We canāt play much worse & the errors seemed to frustrate us. That said, the 1st Parra try was the worst try ever scored, Jennings will never again juggle & hold the ball like he did (Edwards āunseenā touch actually helped Jennings out) , and i still canāt see how Waqaās was a no-try. Downside is that we have lost 2 points to a team destined for bottom 4.
Tamou was a standout. And we proved we could kick the ball to Ferguson. Two plusses.
We didnāt lose this game because of Whare, but the pensioner in #3 for Parra (a bloke they are trying to get rid off) owned Whare for the entire game. Most recognise that Whareās last good game in attack was that Tigers game long ago, but somehow he has gained a reputation as a āgreat defensive centreā. One or two big hits per season, as spectacular & enjoyable as they are, does not negate all the misses he makes. And now, Maloney & his suspect defence has been moved alongside him - I see big problems ahead on our R/S defence. And Gould resigned Whare for what, another 14 years before someone snatched him from us??
As Roy Francis would say - āback to the drawing boardā. We have a good squad, but we need to improve in all areas. All is not lost.
Watched for about 20 minutes before I gave it away. Enough has already been said about how poor we were.
My only observation is a 10 - 2 penalty count. Is that really possible?
Funny thing about the refereeing, it was clearly evident that for the first 20 odd minutes each ref had sole control of each side, I.e. we had the same ref standing us 12m with the other bloke holding parra to 10, itās not a fair system in that regard.
One day later, one day wiserā¦
Yes, back to the drawing board, hopefully we got the worst game of the season out of our system, and can start afresh this week.
I donāt expect major changes to the team, but I do expect the team to have a better attitude and application towards the next game.
Premierships are not won in round 1, after all, how many did we loose in 03 before kicking into gear (7 was it?)
Yes, I am an eternal optimist
Yes, I am a Panther fan
Love it. Words to live by.
In 2003 we lost 3 of our first 4
Last year Roosters lost their first game to a team that ended up missing the finals.
There is a long way to go yet, and starting well is never a guarantee of success (just ask the Dragons )
In 2003 I had $20 on us @ $57, after round 7 I could have got $151ā¦I was just happy I didnāt tear up the ticket by round 7 lol
