In someway this game one could be termed ā€œFittlers last standā€.

Loose this and itā€™s a hard ask playing game 2 at Suncorp.

Heā€™s gone with experience over form, otherwise there would be no way you play either Teddy or Turbo. One game does not make up for a poor season.

Loose this and a different team takes the field at Suncorp. As much as I believe Edwards should be the blues fullback (as well as Burton in the centres), I donā€™t want to see players careers burned in the cauldron fo a lost cause that will be game 2.

Save the blooding of new players for the dead rubber that may well be the Sydney game

I hope we get towelled up and all the Penrith players get dropped

Iā€™ve never been a huge fan of the SOO format. Iā€™d rather see it on 3 stand alone weekends, so that clubs donā€™t lose players, or possibly even after the GF.

Sounds like you are playing the same record that I have been playing since the beginning of time.

The Wednesday night games are only for tv ratings. Who wants to get on the drink midweek or travel when they have to work the next day.

It also adds terrible congestion to peak hour traffic, train delays, non existent bus services etc.

And of course on a stand alone Saturday night, with all teams having the weekend off, no disruption to the season.

You could even have other state games and international games on the same weekend.

I feel like I make the same post every year.

They could easily have a full weekend of games.

Menā€™s & Womenā€™s SOO.

U/17 & U/19 boys & girls SOO

City v country (NSW & Queensland)

Emerging states games

Pacific Islands games

NZ north island v South Island

Iā€™m on board with all Panthers getting dropped.

QLD!

I know Iā€™m being a killjoy, but I canā€™t wait til the whole thing is finished. I canā€™t stand SOO, all the overhyped, overblown coverage for bloody weeks as though itā€™s bigger than Climate Change, the Middle East Peace Solution etc etc. Turns me off so much that I havenā€™t watched it for at least 5 years, and I wonā€™t be watching this year, either.

One story gives some perspective about how toxic the whole thing is. My partner was up in North Qld around the Torres Straits for work a few years ago. She was talking to the local women, who all wanted Qld to win. When she asked why, she got the reply:

ā€œ'Cos when Qld win, we donā€™t get bashed.ā€

Late Mail: Finals Teams Confirmed

Queensland

Billy Slater has made two late changes in his pack with Tino Faā€™asuamaleaui:small_orange_diamond: and Reuben Cotter:small_orange_diamond: promoted to the starting side an hour before kick-off. Thomas Flegler:small_orange_diamond: and Lindsay Collins:small_orange_diamond: will come from the bench.

Cameron Munster is good to go after entering camp with a rib injury. The Maroons have a number of question marks about the make-up of their side with David Fifita likely to play on the left edge and Thomas Gilbert on the right while Ben Hunt is tipped to start at hooker with Harry Grant coming off the bench.

New South Wales

Brad Fittler has made no late changes for the Blues with Tevita Pangai Junior and Hudson Young confirmed starters on Origin debut.

After a whirlwind week of withdrawals and injuries, Stephen Crichton:small_red_triangle: will start on the left edge in place of Latrell Mitchell:injured: , who was ruled out of Origin I with a calf injury on Monday.

Bulldogs playmaker Matt Burton:small_red_triangle: is the new 18th Man. Nathan Cleary (wisdom tooth) is good to go, as is Payne Haas (ankle) after concerns throughout the week.

All eyes will be on what Nicho Hynesā€™ involvement in Game One could be with the reigning Dally M medallist capable of playing in the halves, at fullback, or in a general roving role.

Api Koroisau is the only recognised hooker named in the squad and appears set for big minutes.

SOURCE

Great to see Martin get a try.

Tedesco hasnā€™t got out of second gear all game, and at best Tommy Turbo is either idling or in neutral.

Toā€™o having a blinder, Critta is rocks and diamonds as to be expected.

Tyson Frizel one of NSW best.

Cleary and Luai both going pretty well

Teddy is hogging the ball when he gets it. I saw a few times he had players open, but didnā€™t use them & got tackled.

I ended up watching it after all - the 2nd half, anyway.

Dylan Edwards for Origin 2. Tedescoā€™s hopelessly out of form.

I feel that Tedesco was using the ball he got to make a statement (considering the Roosters and his poor form this season).

Sadly for ā€œTeddyā€ the statement he made was that he is well past his prime and probably should be replaced.

Last night was the perfect example of why you should pick on form & not reputation.

I know that people will say things like ā€œHeā€™s the captainā€ & ā€œHe can turn it in when it countsā€, but that doesnā€™t fly with me.

His club form has been down all year, and he proved last night that he couldnā€™t just turn it on.

Last night he was the difference between the 2 teams, and unfortunately not in a good way. Captain or not. I think itā€™s time for him to step aside.

Edwards has been the form fullback for the last 3 seasons, but is being overlooked.
