Looks like the Panthers will end up in 9th or 10th at the end of Round 15. Not a bad position to be in considering the start to our season.

Warriors away going to be a big ask, especially knowing that the origin rep players won’t be backing up.

A lot of the call up players from NSW Cup were rested and will have the advantage of being able to train with that squad 2 weeks beforehand.

Just seen the team for kiwi game strongest team we could field with no SOO players. I think there are 4 ex Panthers in the Warriors line up!!
At the odds around $3.60 I think we are a chance. Letsgo Panthers

Agree with Letsgochamp, it’s a good side. Glad to see Alamoti back & particularly like the bench. Henry, Garner & Patea have impact, and Toelau can cover half & hooker.

A win against the Warriors is a big ask, but if the forwards really aim up, we’re in with a show.

My main worry is Fisher-Harris. He’ll be primed for a big game!

I only have 2 issues with the team named, and both could be solved within the squad named.

I don’t like Laurie at Fullback. put Milky back there, McLean to the wing and Garner to the centres.

After Bathurst, I have lost faith in Schneider. Simple swap with Jack Cole.

Then again, I am not the coach who has one 4 straight premierships :joy:

It’s going to be a big ask, but it isn’t impossible. If we do get the upset it will put the rest of the competition on notice & silence a few critics.

I really think this game comes down to the forwards. Defence will be key to winning, and if I am picking a halfback based on defence, I’d be picking Schneider over Cole. Talagi has had a few games under his belt now and has been driving some plays, so I am more comfortable with Schneider than weeks prior.

If we keep the Warriors fighting to get out of their half and keep consistent pressure on them in attack we are a chance of beating them,

I didn’t see any issue with Cole’s defense Steve. I expect some of these decision by IC are based around experience rather than the “best” option. If Daine Laurie has a good game, he will be very important, if he has one of those “off” nights with drop balls etc…we could be in for a wild night. I’m OK with Schneider running things. I really like our bench, if we are in the game at 25 mins in, we are in with a real good chance of winning. Our start will determine our result.

I’m not saying Coles defence is terrible, it’s not. What I am saying is that given the two options and the fact we will will need to rely heavily on minimal defensive errors, I’d choose Schneider over Cole. Especially now that Talagi seems more comfortable in his role at 6. Schnieder has a solid kicking game and his defence is strong.

For me the key is playing intelligent football. So, minimise dropped balls, no stuff-ups playing the ball (probably the most unforgivable error), no dumb penalties, finding touch with penalty kicks (here’s looking at you Cole), better communication in the outside backs (don’t rush up and take nobody) and stones-and-diamonds players like Laurie and Papalii bringing their diamond games. There is little room for error.

And, of course, a fair suck of the sav from the ref, if that is not asking too much (how much will the Kiwi crowd affect line-ball judgements).

What is the weather forecast? If rain is likely, that will probably lessen our chances.

I thought Cole and Talagi did well against the Storm earlier in the year, looked more dangerous than with Schneider - I wonder if they’ll get paired up again this season.

I agree though - doesn’t matter what the halves combo is if the forwards aren’t doing their role and if we’re making mistakes.

Fish will be fired up which presents a challenge.

I sure am hoping Moses is up to show up his old mate.

Something that needs to be said - the scheduling of this game is beyond ridiculous.

With SOO in Perth this week, Warriors should not have had a home game, regardless of who they play. Better still, this would probably be a good week for them to have the bye.

Whichever genius rubber stamped this needs a boot up the rear!!!

what about the Panthers home game in magic round at Suncorp against the Broncos

Sadly, he/she was probably just doing what they are paid for, viz to f@&k Penrith. Any idiot preparing this year’s draw would rightly assume that Penrith would have a strong SOO contingent, something far less likely to affect NZ. To play NZ at their home ground just a few days after the Perth SOO was a deliberate act of an organisation controlled by the sombrero-wearing NRL favourites. This reeks of an intent, not an unfortunate circumstance. So, I say screw you NRL. Your salary cap has already damaged our stocks, both elite players and the next generation. This is just the next installment.

Memo to IC : Play the first half of last night’s SOO, on repeat, at the training academy, to remind those venturing across the ditch that complete disrespect for the rules and the ball will surely kill you chances.

Solid first half, and great to be leading. The main thing I wanted was for us to make a good account of ourselves, and so far we have done that. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Great win. Starting to look like premiers again, even without our SOO players. The rest of the competition is now on notice - we are back!!

Maybe we couldn’t have our SOO players in NZ but the good news is that Ashley Klein couldn’t make it either.
