The Origin guys didn’t look to have any injury worries from the game, so fingers crossed they can play on Sunday.
A game we need to win to keep us heading towards September.
We are going to the game - the boys need as many fans there to support them as possible. There will be some players disappointed in the Origin result & hopefully will get a win in the Panther colours.
Jersey Flegg beat eels 40-16. Going behind 6-12 early, we put on a run of tries either side of halftime to lock the game up well before the siren. I only saw the last 30mins, & have seen replays of all the tries only, but there’s a lot of talent in that group.
For NRL, updated team sees Martin, To’o & Edwards drop off the list - Cleary & Yeo remain on the extended bench.
NSW Cup play at 1:30 ahead of the NRL game at Commbank tomorrow. In Cup, both eels and us are in the 5 going into the game.
Big day for the Panthers tomorrow. Hope to see good support at the game - we are in the Panthers supporter bay
Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has named his squad for Sunday’s Round 19 clash against the Eels at CommBank Stadium.
State of Origin representatives Isaah Yeo and Nathan Cleary remain on the extended bench, while Liam Martin, Brian To’o and Dylan Edwards have been rested.
The Panthers will wear the 2025 Away Jersey for the match.
Good win by the boys. I’m not sure what to make of the line up hi jinx at the start of the game but giving Cleary a break from the first 20 minutes wasn’t a bad idea. The younger guys are looking a lot better and forwards are doing their job - Papalii looks to have found a groove (finally).
Hope Tago doesn’t get suspended - I may be biased but the one replay I saw didn’t look like a hip drop despite Johns calling it up as one.
Every time that we play Parra my immediate first thought is ‘watch the off-loads’. Today that is what we saw, But luckily some of them went to ground.
Tago had a top game. But is he facing suspension for a ‘hip-drop’ tackle?
I reckon that Eisenhuth has always been likely to have a few brain explosion penalties. It look like Henry is heading down the same direction. Does he need to control his aggression, putting his brain in gear first?
Yeo is a machine. What else can you say?
We widely recognise the toughness of Kenny. But he must have one of the best dummy half passing games in the NRL. Time and time again he put the ball in front of the receiver, setting up the backline to move. So often in other teams we see the receiver having to stop or jump to take the ball, or even step back.
I am so used to having the bulk of call go against us, particularly the line ball ones. Tonight was a breath of fresh air with the calls. Can we use some of our salary cap to retain that ref?
It didn’t get called up in the game but the MRC should tell us more - a tackle on Katonga towards the end of the first half that injured him. Johns was adamant it was.
Some good signs going forward. I liked the Gus comment in the 2nd half…look at them (panthers) they couldn’t care less what the score is, they just go about their business
Riding the train back to Penrith with a large contingent of Panther fans made me reflect somewhat on what it means to be a Panther supporter. I recalled the memory of over the years of the thought “it’s always a good year when we beat Parra twice”. It doesn’t happen too often, not even during our winning years, but boy does it bring a sense of satisfaction when it does. When the Panthers faithful in the SE corner of the ground broke into the “WE HATE PARRA” chant & the Parra fans started streaming from the ground before the siren, it was a special time. The best the slimies had was to boo Nathan when he was shown on the bench on the bigscreen & when he came into the game.
The eels did come to play, and the plan looked to be to try and set a record in offloads and chancy passes. Perhaps they felt with the team they have they wouldn’t beat us without playing uptempo footy, but their game provided a lot of errors which we mostly too advantage of.
Good performances right across the park for us, a little down on troops, so the signs are good for a good tilt at this premiership. Keep the W’s coming and let’s see what happens in September.
Proud to be a Panther
The MRC has issued Izack Tago a Grade 2 dangerous contact charge against Kitione Kautoga in the 39th minute, which will result in a one week suspension (or 2 weeks if he challenges the decision and is unsuccessful).
Last night was the first time since last year where I had really felt the ‘arrogance’ from our fans! We hate parra broke out, which was hilarious.
What was even better, where the little band of young eels supporters sitting in front of us. Maybe 9-10 years old. They joined in with the Penrith chants definitely at least clapping along. It wasnt too long after that mum and dad went home early .
I love the We hate Parra chant, but dead set we’re kidding ourselves. Eels ‘fans’ hate the eels more than any Penrith fan.
