Despite the score line, I think we made a good account of ourselves, given the side we fielded.
Well, I got what I wanted. Really gutsy performance, full of heart & effort. All the boys should be proud of the way they played. I certainly am, and I’m sure the club, coaching staff & the first grade side watching on the sidelines were as well. Great effort!
Panther Pride Man of the Match voting is now open here.
I really proud of how our nsw cup team played against number 3 on the ladder.
half the teams in the competition would have conceded 50 points against the dogs tonight.
while we didn’t get the win, the boys can hold their heads high.
and those that criticise our resting of 16 players seem to forget both Melbourne and Brisbane did similar the last few seasons.
some future stars on display
I’m sure I am not the only one who wishes Cole was our number 14 rather than Schneider.
Not sure you will find a Panther fan who wasn’t happy with the effort out there. Despite 2 Failed HIA (and 1 Passed HIA) constant reshuffling of the players on the field, reduced to 12 men at the backend of the first half, most would have expected us to get pumped by 50+.
Yet the boys held the line and towards the end was applying some good attacking pressure too. If I was a Bulldogs fan I’d be a bit worried. Their win was FAR from convincing, so much, that I do hope we run into them in the finals with our full squad… it’s going to be a bloodbath.
The dogs seemed to be playing within themselves a bit so not sure this is the same dogs we’ll see in the finals. Solid effort by the Panthers like everyone has mentioned as well - a Laurie diamonds game.
Agree with the view of others that it was the right decision to rest the players & that the players last night gave a good account of themselves. It augers well for our chances come September & for the ongoing future of our club and the individual players who played last night.
The difference in physicality between the top NRL teams and NSW Cup was shown last night & was a big factor in the dogs win, with at times us struggling to contain their big men, giving them metres and a few tries. The boys will learn and develop from that. The binning and the HIA’s added to our troubles.
Our 7 tried hard, and clearly there was tactics in play, but we suffered from a lack of creativity, which took pressure of the dogs - without a ‘fear’ of us in attack, they could be freer in theirs. That would not be the case if we meet them again this season.
Our best players in this game were the ones with the most NRL experience, which is hardly surprising. All should hold their heads high.
There is a lot that can happen between now & the first Sunday in October. It may not work out for us in the end, but we are playing our cards as best we can. The dream is alive, and boy won’t it be something if we find a way to take the trophy home again, in a totally different manner to the way we got the past 4!
Well said Mr Walker …it was a performance the club, fans and players should be proud of. Well done to all.
Although I was very pleased with the effort of the entire team, I can’t help but feel like all we did was advertise our future stars. I know the NRL rugby league world would already be aware of who’s who, but the way our boys aimed up, any team in any comp would be happy to have that player desire to support the TEAM, I hope we don’t get picked apart now lol
Special mention to Mav Geyer, I thought his 80 minute effort was very strong, actually all of our back rowers were great. If anything I thought Patea was a bit of a let down, I say that based on personal expectation, I thought he should have been our dominant forward.
I thought Schneider did ok, but I agree that Cole is too good to play reggies. While we’re on it, Alamoti is FAR too good to play reggies. Having him in Cup is a huge waste of talent. Personally, I’d rather have Alamoti in the NRL side over Tago. At least Alamoti doesn’t rush up out of the line & leave gaping bloody holes.
