Parra seem to be our bogeyman team. They offload with ease, and we never seem to be able to control it. For mine, this is a danger game. I expect that they will have the greater crowd support too, an added advantage. And why is Iongi playing; isn’t he in some sort of trouble for an off-field indiscretion, and stood down pending resolution?
A good game all round. Unlike the past few rounds, we spent a lot of time in defence which tested the resolve of the team.
In attack it looked overall good. Tries scored across the field, not scored all in one place, and the spread between forwards and backs was promising.
We lost our way in the end there, but To’o, Kenny and Yeo was rested when the game was beyond reach for the Eels.
A bit concerned about Mitch Kenny. Looking at the tackle it’s hard to see how he could have done more to prevent injury. I think Ivan said it best in the post game presser, the NRL have had some scope creep on what it deems a hip drop. The tackle seemed fine, but because there was a injury, somebody has to be blamed. I am sure nobody here need to be told that this is a contact sport, and if Kenny decided to tackle him higher there wouldn’t be an issue. I am not sure what message the NRL are trying to say, so they would rather you hit them higher then around the legs.
The problem with Kenny is even with a Grade 1 charge, with a previous similar charge in the past year (Dangerous Contact Grade 2 in 2025 against Roosters) he will probably be looking at time on the sideline. I would think that either Lussick or Cogger will be in the 9 next week.
Update: The MRC has charged Mitch Kenny. It’s odd they stated it as “First Offence” as he was charged with this exact charge in Round 7 last year.
Panthers hooker Mitch Kenny is facing a one-game for a ‘hip drop’ tackle on Eels fullback Isaiah Iongi at CommBank Stadium.
The tackle in the 43rd minute of the match resulted in Iongi suffering a suspected syndesmosis injury and has been assessed as a Grade 2 Dangerous Contact offence.
Kenny will miss one match with an early guilty plea or two matches should he fight the charge and be found guilty at the judiciary.
Just wanted to say that Billy Phillips is looking like a genuine first grader. Every game he’s getting these really good touches. Stuff just seems to happen around him, really good signs.
Will be tough against Melbourne next week without Mitch Kenny in the middle.
Certainly agree regarding Billy, he is developing rapidly into a very special footballer.
I thought our middles were the stars of the show last night, some of the skill showed by Leota and Lindsay (and Billy as well), well the best compliment I can think of is to call it “Yeoesc” lol
It looks like ‘hip drops’ are like the 6-agains, viz a guessing competition. When a tackler dives at the legs of a speeding opponent, from an angle, it should surprise no-one that the tackler doesn’t have full control of the way in which his body moves after impact.
Liam Martin needs to learn when to control himself; otherwise his good work is undone by brain explosions and he then becomes part liability.
Penrith pride themselves on being a disciplined team. Yet we had at least two lost balls in the play-the-ball. Is there a worse error than that, in this era when the defendants can’t strike at the ball?
The golden days are back! Enjoy. We’ll never see such a team again. The NRL must sh&$#@ing themselves trying to work out how to nullify Penrith power. And it must piss off teams like Easts when all the money in the world isn’t enough.
